“Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.”
Boaz was a very good man. Very few men in the Scriptures can measure up to the character of Boaz. There is little to wonder as to why God would use this man when you see his character. If every person had Boaz’s character, every person would find themselves being as productive and blessed as he was. Let me point out several attributes that you should copy about Boaz’s character.
First, Boaz was diligent. It says in the verse above, “…for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.” In other words, he cared for his responsibilities to they were completed. As the owner of a farm, he was diligent to know who his workers were, and that is why he noticed Ruth in the field. Every person should be diligent in their work. You should be quick to do what you are supposed to do and careful that you take care of every detail in your responsibilities in an excellent manner. Diligent people find “lucky” opportunities. The more diligent you are with your responsibilities and in life, the more you will find great opportunities coming your way.
Second, Boaz was industrious. You will go nowhere in life if you are waiting for work to come your way. Industrious people find a way to work, and promotion always finds the industrious person. You will find that you can build something great if you are willing to work hard. Great success doesn’t find the talented person, but it finds the industrious one who outworks all the people of talent.
Third, Boaz was selfless. Boaz was willing to carry on the kinsman’s part even if it meant that it would damage his own inheritance. Selfless people find blessings that few people discover. You will find that the more selfless you are and the more you care not for your own needs but for the needs of others, the more that God will bless you.
Fourth, Boaz was a finisher. The verse above says that he would not rest until he “finished the thing this day.” Anybody can start something, but few people finish what they start. You can’t expect God’s blessings unless you are a finisher. Finishing takes follow-through, hard work, persistence, and tenacity to overcome any obstacle until you see the task completed. If finishing were easy, every person would be a finisher. Be careful about starting things and not completing them. The best way to finish things is to keep working on the same task until it is completed before starting the next task. Don’t let your disinterest in the complicated tasks keep you from finishing what you start.
Fifth, Boaz was godly. You see many resemblances of God in Boaz’s character. You can have all the talent and character that a person should have, but godliness is the greatest character trait that will influence your actions and mindset more than anything else. My friend, you will find the character traits you are supposed to have will come easy if you become godly. Every area where you lack character is a result of your lack of being ungodly. Become more like God in all that you do, and character will easily be achieved.
Let me ask you, what area do you lack in having the character of Boaz? Though Boaz was just a man, his character propelled him to godly success. You will find God’s blessings and success if you epitomize Boaz’s character.
