A Clear Choice
“Go and tell Hananiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast broken the yokes of wood; but thou shalt make for them yokes of iron.”
Jeremiah made the choice clear for Zedekiah; the choice was to either choose the yoke of wood by following God’s way, or to choose the yoke of iron of a progressive preacher who had never proven himself. Zedekiah had the choice to listen to God’s Word which never failed, or to listen to a progressive prophet whose only motive was to be the popular prophet in society. The choice was very clear. The yoke of wood which Jeremiah talked about may have been a yoke, but it was much lighter than the yoke of iron that the progressive prophet wanted Zedekiah to choose. Certainly, the yoke of iron may have sounded more palatable in the beginning, but its end was heartache and sorrow.
The believer also has a clear choice to make; they can choose to live the way progressive preachers preach who’s desire is to be the popular preachers of their day, or the believer can choose the yoke of wood which is not so popular with society, but they will always find God’s presence in the yoke of wood. Jesus makes it clear that His yoke is much easier to carry than the yoke of iron that progressiveness offers. Matthew 11:29-30 says, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” My friend, you have a clear choice to make; however, always remember if you want to be in the same yoke with Christ, you must choose to walk in the old paths that are unpopular with progressives.
You have a clear choice; you can choose the yoke of pleasure or the yoke of service. You can choose to live your life to please yourself, or you can choose to serve the LORD. Serving the LORD may inconvenience you and keep you from partaking in some of the worldly activities you want to be a part of, but you will always find that being in the yoke of service with Christ always leads to great fellowship and unspeakable joy from being with Christ. You can choose the yoke of worldly pleasure, but the world’s pleasure always leaves you with dissatisfaction and regrets.
You have a clear choice; you can choose the yoke of infidelity or the yoke of holiness. You can choose to be immoral and enjoy a night of pleasure, but that yoke always leads to disease, heartache and loneliness. Certainly, the yoke of infidelity promises pleasure, but it always leaves you empty and lonely at the end of life. You also have a clear choice to choose the yoke of holy living and be purity, which always leads to fulfilling relationships and no regrets at the end of life. Every person who has chosen the yoke of holiness and faithfulness to their spouse has always found the joy of a fulfilling relationship that only comes from being faithful to one person.
You have a clear choice; you can choose the yoke of progressive paths or the yoke of the old paths. The progressive paths may be popular now, but you will always find those paths quickly change to the next new thing that comes around. The progressive paths may seem easier and inviting, but you will always lose your children to the world in those paths. The end to where the old paths lead are easily seen. History has proven that the old paths work. The old paths may seem out-of-date to someone looking for something new, but the old paths always lead you closer to Christ.
