Accepted by God
“And when these days are expired, it shall be, that upon the eighth day, and so forward, the priests shall make your burnt offerings upon the altar, and your peace offerings; and I will accept you, saith the Lord GOD.”
God gave Ezekiel a list of things that the priests needed to do to prepare for their service in the temple. It was important to God that these men properly prepared, and that they served in the manner that God prescribed. The result of doing things God’s way was that He said, “…I will accept you, saith the Lord GOD.” What a wonderful promise from God to these people if they did what the LORD commanded.
This promise of being accepted by God is still available to the Christian today. Though these priests were to serve in the temple, the Christian must remember that they are a priest of God and that their body is the temple of the Holy Ghost. If we conduct ourselves as these people did, we could also be accepted by God. God makes four things clear that we must do to be accepted by Him.
First, you need to have a serving mindset. Verse 19 says, “And thou shalt give to the priests the Levites that be of the seed of Zadok, which approach unto me, to minister unto me…” You will notice that they were supposed to “minister” to the LORD. Every Christian should have a serving mindset. Yes, we should have a servants heart to serve others, but the greatest mindset a Christian can have is a mindset to serve the LORD. The servant realizes they simply follow the commands of their lord unreservedly; likewise, every Christian should have the mindset that they will unreservedly serve the LORD according to the guidelines of His Word.
Second, you must have a daily cleansing if you want to be accepted by God. In verse 25, God told these priests to prepare every day for the sin offering. Christian, it is hard to serve the LORD as a dirty vessel. The clean vessel is the vessel that the LORD can wholly use because there is nothing that hinders Him from using that vessel. If the Christian would be sure that they daily cleanse themselves from sin, they will find that the LORD can more easily use them in His service.
Third, you must daily sacrifice if you want to be accepted by God. Verse 26 shows how they daily sacrificed to the LORD. There can be no restraint from the Christian if they desire the LORD to use them greatly. There are times when you are going to have to sacrifice your desires and wants if you want to please the LORD in His service. There are times when our plans don’t match God’s plans, and it is in those times when you must sacrifice your will for His. Anything less than total sacrifice for the LORD will result in the Christian not fulfilling God’s total will for their lives.
Fourth, you must daily walk with God if you want to be accepted by Him. The verse above talks about having peace offerings. Every day we learn how to make peace with God in our daily walk through His Word and prayer. You will find your Christian service to be superficial without a daily time of walking with God. It is only through your daily walk that you learn how to live a life totally surrendered to God.
Certainly, God accepts us through the shed blood of Jesus Christ for salvation, but to be accepted in favor which has nothing to do with salvation can be done by following these four steps. You will never be satisfied in Christ until you do these things which cause you to find His favor.
