1 Thessalonians 1:3
“Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;”
The work of the LORD will never be accomplished without the ingredients mentioned in the verse above. Every great work always has these ingredients, and without any of these ingredients, God’s miraculous work will not be seen. Every great church will have the ingredients that are mentioned above. Every great Christian has exhibited the ingredients of the verse above. Every great work of God has had the ingredients of the work above. If you are going to accomplish anything in God’s work, you are going to have to have accomplishment’s ingredients. Let me share with you these ingredients.
Paul mentions three things that these people had: faith, love and hope. God cannot do great works without these three things. Faith is the catalyst of every great work of God. You will never see God’s power in your life or ministry without faith. If you must see before you act in faith, you will never experience the miraculous power of God. Faith requires you to trust God by stepping out on what you cannot see. You will never enjoy the Christian life until you learn to stop walking by sight and to start trusting God and live by faith.
Love is also necessary for God’s work to be accomplished. Faith without love is empty. Love is what made Jesus leave Heaven to die for the sins of mankind, and love is what will cause the believer to help those who won’t help themselves. You must have a love for people for faith to be able to accomplish its work.
Hope is what makes love continue. Hope is the vision that the work of faith and love is doing its work in those in whom you are investing your life. Hope is the light at the end of the tunnel that keeps you going. Hope is what silences the voices that are compelling you to quit. Hope is what quenches doubt and encourages faith.
However, these three things will never be done without another three words mentioned in the verse above. The first thing necessary to make these things happen is work. The verse above says, “Remembering without ceasing your work of faith…” The word “work” means, actively involved to achieve a purpose. God’s work will never be accomplished without you getting involved. It takes work to help others. It takes work for buses to be filled. It takes work to lead people to Christ. The work of the LORD takes people to get actively involved to accomplish it. God’s work will never be done with His people sitting and watching others do everything.
The second thing God’s work needs to be accomplished is “labour.” The word “labour” means, grinding or working through difficulties. My friend, you are going to have to grind through hard times before you see God’s miraculous works. If everything came easily, everyone would do God’s work; however, there are times in God’s work you are going to have to grind through the work. You will never see God’s powerful working hand if you need everything to be easy.
The third thing God’s work needs to be accomplished is patience. Everything doesn’t happen overnight. Let me encourage you to be patient with what the LORD is doing through you. Yes, it takes patience to grind or labour, but God always rewards your patience with blessings. No work of God will be accomplished without these three ingredients.
