And Elisha Prayed

post-title

2 Kings 6:17 “And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.”

Elisha’s life was in danger. The enemies’ army had surrounded his house. His servant was nervous about what to do as he saw that the army was not there peaceably but to take the life of the prophet and anyone inside the house. At the point of breaking, Elisha’s servant cried, “Alas, my master! how shall we do?” To this servant, it was all over. The situation was certainly a grave situation, but this servant’s answer to the problem was not the answer that could resolve the problem.

However, let’s focus on the other personality in this story. Elisha seemed to be as confident in his survival as the servant’s nervousness and worry of disaster. Elisha was not shaken by who had surrounded his house. Elisha chose to let faith guide his thinking process instead of letting fear control him. What was the secret to Elisha’s confidence and faith? The answer is found in three words, “And Elisha prayed…” Elisha could have easily been controlled by fear, but he was led by faith because he prayed.

The answer not to allow fear to control your life is prayer. Prayer is the only thing that will strengthen your faith in times when fear wants to shut you down. Fear’s message of demise is certainly valid, but fear never takes the power of prayer and faith into account. Nobody has ever said that what fear is telling you is not real, but fear will keep you from the answer that will take down the basis of fear. Prayer is that tool that can give you the faith to see what God is doing to protect you when fear’s armies surround you.

You have two choices to dwell on in life. Your first choice is to be like the servant and let fear control you, which only leads you to an unstable life. In a time when COVID has pedaled fear among people, it is no wonder that so many people have mental issues from this fear. Fear only gives anxiety issues, and the sad part is you have the answer to overcome fear as a believer. Whatever your fear issues are, don't live in panic about what you will do like this servant.

However, the second choice you have is to be like Elisha and live in faith, but the only way you will live this way is by having a prayer life. “And pray” is the answer to every problem you will face today and in your life. It should be said about you that when you faced life’s problems that your answer was to pray. When the doctor comes back with bad news, your answer is to pray. When your finances seem to be upside down and you don't know how you will make it, prayer is your answer. When inflation is on the rise and you hear the fear mongers pedaling total demise, prayer is the answer to keeping you from living in fear.

My friend, “and praying” is the only thing that will open your eyes to see what God is doing for you. Let me remind you that God has always promised to take care of His children. The only way you are going to see that answer is prayer. Are you letting fear control your life? Has fear caused you to go into hibernation mode? The only way you will strengthen your faith is through prayer. Let me challenge you to stop allowing fear to dictate your emotions and pray so that faith can encourage you to continue doing right despite life’s circumstances that surround you.
