“And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged;”
Three of the greatest words that are found in the Scriptures are found in the verse above when God says, “And God remembered…” Noah must have been lonely. There must have been a fear in Noah’s mind that what if God makes him live in the ark for the rest of his life. You have to remember that Noah had just seen the greatest “catastrophe” that the world had experienced. In the history of the Earth, there had never been a worldwide flood, and the only ones who made it through that flood were Noah and his family.
When it says that “God remembered Noah,” did it mean that God had forgotten about him? No, God did not forget Noah. The word “remember” comes from the prefix “re-,” and the Latin word “memoir.” The prefix “re-“ means again, and the word “memoir” means to be mindful of. In other words, God was thinking of Noah again. God was mindful of Noah again. God never stopped thinking about Noah; He was simply being mindful of him again as Noah was alone with his family on the ark for many days.
Do you ever feel that you are like Noah, alone on the ark of your troubles and wondering what is going to become of your life? My friend, the fact that God remembered Noah should be an encouragement to you in your times of wonder and loneliness about what tomorrow holds. The fact that God remembered should be an encouragement to you that God is still working in your life to bring you about to the place where He wants to continue working through you. Let me share a few thoughts with you about this great phrase that reminds us that God is mindful of us.
First, God never forgets about you. Be careful that you don’t fall into the martyr syndrome of thinking that you are all alone and that God has completely forgotten about you. Just like God never forgot about Noah, He will never, and has never forgotten about you. God knows exactly where you are, and He knows exactly what is going on in your life.
Second, God always has you in mind. The fact that God remembered should encourage you that God is mindful of you again. God has never stopped thinking about you, and He will continue to think about you and your situation in life. In fact, God is so mindful of you that He has already planned where you are going to land when the violent waters of trials are abated in your life. God already has your tomorrow planned because He has you in mind, and He has your every step planned for your life. Never lose hope; God has you on His mind.
Third, God remembering you should remind you of God’s mercy towards you. Always remember that your life could be worse, but God’s mercy is what has kept the floodwaters in your life from destroying you. In the worst of your life’s circumstances, remember that God’s mercy has kept you from the worst.
Fourth, the fact that God remembered you is a reminder that He is still working in your life. You may not see how God’s hand is working, but you don’t have to see His hand, you just need to trust His Word. All you have to do is to trust God that He is mindful of you again and that He is working out His wonderful plan for your life. My friend, trust God and always remember that God is mindful of you again.
