Anointed

Acts 10:38
“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”

The word “anointed” carries two definitions and only the context of the Scripture can tell what it means. The one meaning is to be set apart for service. Often in the Scriptures you will see that the LORD anointed someone for service. This means they were set apart to do something for the LORD.

The second meaning is found in the verse above which means to be covered or empowered with the Holy Ghost. The verse above says that God anointed Jesus with the “Holy Ghost and with power.” The result of Jesus being anointed was He “went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil.” In other words, when a person is anointed with the Holy Ghost, the results are always a person will do the works of God because God will be with them.

When you think of anointing something, you think of rubbing cream on a rash or open wound so it can be cured. If Christians were anointed with the Holy Ghost, they would find that He would cause them to be different and to do things differently. As I think of being anointed, there are several things that we should ask the Holy Ghost to anoint.

First, your eyes need to be anointed so they can see through God’s eyes. If you allowed the Holy Ghost to anoint your eyes, you would find that they would not look at things which would cause you to lust or covet, but you would look through the eyes of God and see the world is in need of a Saviour.

Second, your ears need to be anointed so they can hear what God wants you to hear. My friend, don’t anoint your ears with the gossip and music of the world, but let the Holy Ghost anoint your ears to hear His prodding and the needs of those around you.

Third, your mouth needs to be anointed so it will speak the words that the Holy Ghost would want you to speak. I’m afraid our mouth is often anointed with anger and malice which causes us to speak words of hurt instead of help. Let the Holy Ghost anoint your mouth so that you speak the words that help and words that bring people to the Saviour.

Fourth, your heart needs to be anointed so that you have the right desires. Many of our desires could be changed if our heart was anointed with the Holy Ghost. Our heart would not be filled with worldly desires if the Holy Ghost anointed our heart. Any desire problem is a result of our heart being anointed with the wrong thing.

Fifth, your hands need anointing so they help others instead of doing the works of the flesh. My friend, your daily prayer should be that the Holy Ghost anoints your hands to be helpful to someone in need.

Sixth, your legs need to be anointed so they will walk in the places the Holy Ghost would want you to walk. If you don’t want to walk in the wrong places, let the Holy Ghost anoint your legs to walk where He would want you to walk.

Seventh, your feet need to be anointed so they will stand for the right things. The only reason people don’t stand for truth is because they have not allowed the Holy Ghost to anoint their feet. Simply put, if you are anointed with the Holy Ghost, you will go about doing good. Are you anointed?
