Awareness
1 Chronicles 28:10
“Take heed now; for the LORD hath chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.”
When God says in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant,” He is saying to be aware. In the verse above, David was telling Solomon to be aware because of the LORD’s calling on his life to build the temple. David understood that there would be many things that would try to draw Solomon’s attention away from what he was supposed to be doing. In order to avoid anything drawing him away from what he was supposed to do, he needed to be sure that he was aware of everything going on in his life so that he could finish building the temple. Solomon did a good job of being aware for most of his life, but he failed to stay aware all the way to his death.
Awareness is one of the lost character traits in today’s society. The emergence of digital technology has truly caused this society to lose its awareness of everything around them. All you have to do is walk down the street and look at people walking and you will see what I am talking about with people not being aware of their surroundings or life in general. If you are going to be successful in serving the LORD and doing His will in your life, you are going to have to learn to be aware because Satan will do everything in his power to stop you from doing God’s will in your life. Let me share a few areas where you need to be aware.
First, be aware of the importance of what you are doing. Solomon’s commission to build the temple was the greatest thing he could do in his life, and he had to make sure nothing pulled him away from doing it. Never lose the awe of what God has called you to do. Whatever God has called you to do in life is the highest calling you could pursue. You must keep an awareness of the significance of God’s will on your life if you are going to keep doing His will when His will loses its enamor.
Second, be aware of what can keep you from doing what you are to be doing. There will always be things that try to pull your attention away from what you are supposed to be doing for the LORD, but you must always refuse to do them because what God wants you to do is always better. There are great and worthy things you can get involved in, but if they are not what God has called you to do, never allow yourself to do those things. Making money, involvement in politics or a greater position can always seem to be great and worthy causes, but if these things are not what God has called you to do, they will pull you away from what you are supposed to be doing.
Third, be aware of who can keep you from doing what you are doing. Most of the time in your life, you will find out that people are the ones who pull you away from what you are supposed to do. Just because someone else thinks you should do something doesn’t mean that it is what God wants you to do. What someone else may want you to associate yourself with them may not be bad, but you must not get involved with anyone in a cause that could pull you away from God’s calling on your life.
My friend, if you are going to be successful in doing God’s will for your life, you are going to have to “Take heed now.” You are going to have to stay aware of anything or anyone who would hinder you from doing what you are supposed to do. Never forget that the greatest thing you can do in life is to do what God placed you on this Earth to do.
