“Thus was all the work of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation finished: and the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so did they.”
Being a person who finishes is critical to being productive. Many find themselves starting projects that they never finish, and then they wonder why they are so unproductive. One of the greatest keys to productivity and success is finishing. It doesn’t matter how big or small the task may be; every task must be finished because every task is important to productivity and success.
God said about the children of Israel as they built the tabernacle, “Thus was all the work of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation finished…” These people didn’t start something and leave it undone, but they finished every little detail. Leaving the little details undone is what will lead to the work crumbling. However, there are several actions this verse reveals that you must do before you can ever finish. If you don’t do these actions, you will never finish your projects. Let me share with you these actions.
First, you must listen. The children of Israel could not do “according to all that the LORD commanded Moses” had they not listened. You must listen to the instructions if you want to finish. The carpenter who tries to build a house without listening to the instructions of a blueprint will fail to build a house. Likewise, the believer who won’t listen to those who are giving instructions on how to do God’s work will fail if they don’t listen.
Second, you must obey. Not only did the children of Israel listen to Moses, but they obeyed what he told them to do. Too many people want to do things their way instead of listening to the one whom God has put in charge. If everyone does their own thing instead of listening to the instructions, the work won’t be finished but instead will collapse in chaos. You must obey the instructions given by God’s man if you want to get to the finish line in an organized manner.
Third, you must work. Nobody ever gets to the finished product without hard work. The work takes work for the work to be finished. Everyone enjoys the benefits of the finished product, but most don’t want to do the work it takes to get the finished product for themselves. Stop looking for an easy way to get to the finished product and work to get it. There is no shortcut to success or productivity; it only comes because someone chose to work hard and not quit.
Fourth, you must work with others. The last three words of the verse above are critical as it says, “so did they.” Everyone worked together, and that is what facilitated their ability to finish. You must have the ability to work with others if God’s work is going to be finished. Working with others is not always easy, but it is the key to God’s work being productive and getting to the finished product.
Fifth, you must not quit. I’m sure there were times when these people wanted to quit, but they didn’t, and that is why they finished. You will never know the joy of finishing if you always quit when adversity appears and hard work is required. You must have the fortitude to continue on in spite of how long it takes to finish if you want to get to the finish line. My friend, don’t be a quitter and you will eventually get to the finish line.
