“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:”
Without faith it is impossible to please the LORD, but by faith the impossible becomes possible. We often hear of the importance of faith, and we should because the Christian walk can only be done by faith. You will never succeed in the Christian walk without a life of faith. In Romans 5, God shows several things that are accomplished by faith. Let me share with you the benefits of walking the Christian walk by faith.
First, you are justified by faith. Nobody has ever had their sins paid for without faith in Jesus Christ. You cannot be justified with God without faith in Him. Works, baptism, church attendance, or faith in a spiritual leader will ever cover the payments of your sin. The only way your sins can be paid for so that you are justified is through faith in Jesus Christ. It is being justified by faith that unlocks the other benefits of faith.
Second, you have peace with God by faith. The verse above continues to say, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God…” An individual always finds peace in life when they get saved. There is nothing that calms the fears of life more than being at peace with God. Once a person is justified by faith, they will discover a new peace they never had. My friend, if you are saved, you must by faith believe that God is in control. The peace God gives at salvation can also be found through the trials of life if you will have the faith that God is in control. Placing your faith in God to make it through trials the same way you did to get saved is where you will find peace to continue in trials.
Third, you have access to God by faith. Verse 2 says, “By whom also we have access by faith…” Access to God through prayer was given the very moment you put your faith in God to get saved. Let me remind you that God promises to hear your prayers, and by faith you are going to have to trust that He’s heard every prayer even if you don’t feel He is listening. Let me remind you that God hearing your prayer is not based on your feelings, but on the fact that He promised to hear you pray. By faith you must walk away from your time of prayer believing that God has heard your plea and will answer according to His will.
Fourth, you stand by faith. Verse 2 continues to say, “By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand…” When you by faith believe that God has heard your prayers, it will give you the faith to stand no matter what comes your way. The only reason doubt causes a believer to waver in the promises of God is because they doubt He has heard their prayers. Standing by faith is the only way you will make it through life without quitting the Christian walk.
Fifth, you have hope by faith. Verse 2 continues by saying, “…and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” Your hope that God will come through will only be accomplished by faith. What gives the believer hope is faith in God’s promises? My friend, without faith your hope will diminish. You will never make it through the hardships of life without hope, and hope will only be your anchor when you have faith in God.
Sixth, you love by faith. Verse 5 says, “And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts…” You will only be able to make an impact on the lives of others by loving them by faith, which makes you believe that God is doing a work in their lives.
