“Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.”
Daniel faced a circumstance that seemed to be insurmountable. A law had been enacted that Darius was the only one to whom they could pray. Daniel understood that this was not an option, so he continued to pray three times a day as he had always prayed. The problem was that his enemies found him praying and turned him over to the king. The punishment for breaking this law was that the person was to be thrown into a den of hungry lions. Darius wanted to release Daniel from this punishment, but the men who hated Daniel reminded Darius that “no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.”
What these men had not considered was that God was greater than their unalterable law. There is always One who can change the decree of man, and that is God. Whether the decree is a health decree, law decree, or a decree that you are nothing and can’t do anything, God is able to change what man thinks can’t be changed.
It was Pilate who said to the soldiers, when they laid the body of Jesus in the tomb, to “make it as sure as ye can.” Pilate tried to make sure that Jesus would not rise again, but God altered what man said was unalterable. When Lazarus had been dead for three days, it was Jesus who had the stone rolled away and called Lazarus from the dead. Jesus was very capable of making a stinking dead body come back to life to the amazement of those around.
My friend, the doctor may say that there is no hope for healing, but the doctor is not more powerful than the God who created your body. Society may deem you as useless, but society has not considered the power of God that can make the useless useful. It was the power of God that took a shepherd boy who nobody believed in and made out of him the greatest king in Israel’s history. It was the power of God that took Gideon, a fearful and scared farmer, and made of him a mighty general. It was the power of God that made the seas a path to walk on for Peter. It was the power of God that took eleven “ignorant” men and used them to turn the world upside down. It was the power of God that took a dumb donkey to preach a sermon to a backslidden preacher. Never underestimate what the power of God can do in your life.
You will never see the unalterable changed without God. The only reason the hungry lions would not eat what they should have eaten was because a powerful God shut their mouths until Daniel was out of their den. Whatever you feel cannot be changed in your life can be changed if you understood the power of the God whom you serve.
Moreover, you will never see the unalterable change without prayer. My friend, the status quo will continue to reign in your life until you go to prayer. It is is the power of prayer that stirs God to turn the status quo into the miraculous, and the impossible into possible.
Your answer to what seems to be impossible to you is one prayer away. You may have quit praying for what you thought is impossible, but never stop praying until God answers. If God can shut the mouth of hungry lions to save Daniel’s life, He can alter your situation into a favorable situation if you will simply pray.
