1 Corinthian 12:14 “For the body is not one member, but many.”
God equates His church to a body. It is important to understand that the church is a local body of believers. In other words, my church here in Oklahoma City is a different church from a church in California. The members of a church in California are not part of my local body of believers in the church here in Bethany. Each church is its own body, and each believer is a part of that local body of believers called the local church.
God says that the body is not one member but many. You are either contributing to your church or being an obstacle to your church; it all depends upon whether you are contributing or sitting. You are either being a contribution to your church or you were being an obstacle to your church; it all depends upon whether you are contributing or sitting. If your local church is going to be what it is supposed to be, and if it is going to stay healthy, then you must contribute to your local church. Don't get upset about your local church not doing what it is supposed to do when you sit and do nothing. You contribute to the health of your local body just like every member of my body contributes to my health. Let me share a few thoughts about the importance of either being a contributor or an obstacle to your local church body.
First, every part of the body is critical to the whole body. Every member of the church is important to the body of that church. It doesn't matter the age group, financial status, the part of town that they live in, their education level, or their health abilities, every member in a church is critical to the health and effectiveness of your church. This means that you are important to your church. You may think that you are not that critical of a member to your church, but God begs to differ. When you got baptized into the body of your church, you immediately became a critical member of that body to help it perform in such a manner so that it can reach its city for Christ. Only Satan wants you to think that you are not essential to your church; therefore, contributing to your church helps your local church body to be healthy.
Second, no part of the body is meant just to be there; it is made to work. There is no part of the physical body that is not important to the working of that body. For instance, God did not make an arm to do nothing, but he made the arm to contribute in picking things up. Every organ inside of a body is critical to that body being healthy. Every limb of a body is critical to the body’s ability to contribute in life. Likewise, no member of the local church body is made to sit; it is made to serve and contribute to that church body reaching its city for Christ.
Third, when one part of the body stops working, it makes it difficult for the whole body to work properly. The purpose of the church body is to reach the world with the Gospel, and when one member of the body does not contribute, the church will not spread the Gospel to the extent that it could.
My friend, you are either a contributor or an obstacle that helps or hinders your church body, depending on whether you are serving the LORD or sitting and doing nothing. Every church could reach their city for Christ if every member of the local church body contributed their part to spreading the Gospel. Don't be an obstacle that causes your church body to be sick, but be a contributor to keeping your local church body healthy.
