2 Corinthians 4:7 “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.”
Discovering treasure is never easy, but God says that there is treasure in every person. The problem with the treasure is that it is hidden in the earthen vessel in which we all live. That treasure inside the earthen vessel is of great value if you are willing to dig through the earthen vessel to find it.
Inside of those you work with is a treasure if you are willing to do the work to find it. Inside of the bus child, the addict, the fallen, the troubled child, and the one who is hard to teach is a treasure that God can use for His glory if the treasure finder would take the time to find the treasure. My friend, you are the treasure finder, but you will never find that treasure with those you work with if you don't seek for the treasure. There are several things you must do if you are going to discover treasures in the earthen vessels.
First, you must look beyond the earthen vessel. Don't see the sin that cloaks the treasure, but if you look beyond the brokenness, you will see the treasure in the earthen vessel. Inside of every person, no matter how much sin has dirtied them, is a treasure that can be discovered and used by God if you will look beyond the earthen vessel.
Second, you must be willing to dig through the earthen vessel to discover it. It is never easy to find the treasure in earthen vessels; it takes work, patience, and longsuffering to dig through the earthen vessel of sinful people to find the treasure in them. The work it takes to find the treasure is worth it if you don't let sin stop you from finding the treasure.
Third, you must get the earthen vessel to believe that they have a treasure inside of them. Part of the work in finding the treasure in an earthen vessel is to get that person to believe they have a treasure inside them that God wants to use. Sin takes the confidence and belief away that God would want to use them. You MUST get them to believe that they have something inside them that God wants to use if they will get rid of the sin that hides the treasure. Once you get the earthen vessel to believe that they have something inside them that God wants to use is when your work becomes much easier. The earthen vessel will keep going back to the earthen lifestyle until you get them to believe they have a treasure inside of them.
Fourth, you must not give up on the earthen vessel until you find the treasure. I know it is frustrating to work with earthen vessels, but someone must be willing never to give up on the earthen vessel if the treasure is going to be discovered. The fact that God never gave up on you when your sins hid your treasure should cause you to keep working with the earthen vessels until you find the treasure inside of them.
Fifth, it takes the power of God on your life to find the treasures in earthen vessels. You will never find that treasure in the earthen vessels on your own, and you will never be able to make the treasure the focus instead of the earthen vessel without God’s power. If you want to be a life-changer, you are going to have to get God’s power to find those treasures in the earthen vessels you work with. There are multiple treasures in your ministry that are wrapped in earthen vessels, but you will never discover those treasures without God’s power on your life.
