“And Dinah the daughter of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.”
Have you been in the car when someone said, “Don’t look!” For whatever reason, what someone didn’t want us to look at is what drew our attention to the very thing we were not supposed to see. Though you may not have had a choice to be in the presence of whatever it was you were not supposed to see, being where the thing you were not supposed to see was caused you to see it.
Dinah made the decision to go “out to see the daughters of the land.” What seemed to be a harmless act was one of the most dangerous things she did. Her desire to just go see what the “daughters of the land” were doing is what caused her to meet people she should not have met; and become friends with a young man she should not have been around and do things with that young man that she should not have done. It all started out with the desire just to see.
I’m afraid too many Christians make the same foolish mistake that Dinah made, and that mistake is just to look at something at which they have no business looking. Many people have ruined their life, purity, innocence and life because they went out to see. My friend, there are some things you don’t need to see. There are three observations you need to be reminded of about going out to see.
First, no one has ever gone out to see without seeing something they should not have seen. If you are not in the wrong place, you won’t see the wrong thing. Many people have seen things they had no business seeing because they were in a place they had no business being. If you don’t go out to see, you won’t see what you should not see.
Second, no one has ever gone out to see without meeting someone they should not have met. If you don’t want to meet the wrong friends, don’t go to the places where the wrong people gather. You may be curious what people do in the wrong places, but you don’t need to look at those places because you will meet someone you should not know.
Third, no one has ever gone out to see without doing something they should not have done. You never go somewhere without doing something. You may have gone in innocence, but you will do something which will ruin your purity. Many people have gone out to see what the world was like only to come back with the baggage of the actions they performed while looking at the world. If you don’t want to collect the baggage of the world, don’t go looking in the world to see what it is all about.
Christian, the best thing you can do is to stay where you are supposed to stay. You don’t need to see what the world is like because God has already told you to come out of the world. You don’t need to see what is wrong with liberal preachers or colleges because you will always learn something you should not have learned because you saw it. You may think you are strong enough to handle the liberal teaching of the world, but the Devil laughs at you because he knows you will learn something you would have never learned had you not gone out to see.
My friend, stay put! Don’t go looking at things and places you have no business seeing. If you are not in the wrong places, you will never learn or see what they do; this is the secret to staying pure and keeping an innocent mind.
