“When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.”
We know that living by faith is one of the critical elements of the Christian walk because without faith you cannot please God. Having the individual faith to step out to do something great for God is needed in our day. It seems as if we live in times when faith is a rare commodity, and then we wonder why we see so few works being accomplished in our day. The need for God’s people to step out by faith to do something is absolutely necessary if we are going to reach this generation and the next generation for Christ.
However, there is a greater faith that one can have, and that is having faith for others. In the verse above, there were four men who had faith for a man who could not get himself to Jesus. This man who was sick had palsy, and he had no way of himself to get to Jesus. This man needed someone else to have enough faith to get him to Jesus so that he could be healed. Fortunately for this man, four men had enough faith to carry him to Jesus, and not just carry him to Jesus, but tore through a roof to let him down so that Jesus could heal him. It was the faith that these men had for others that caused this palsied man to be healed.
There are many people in this world who need you to have faith for others. Some people will never get to Jesus if you don’t have faith for another. It is not enough just to have faith for yourself, but you need to have faith for others who will never get themselves to Jesus. How can you have faith for another?
First, get yourself in a church ministry that reaches those who would never be able to get to church themselves. In my church, we have several ministries that help our people have faith for others. We have a bus ministry that picks up people to bring them to church because these people would never get to church without picking them up. We have a homeless ministry where we go and pick up people who live on the street or in a shelter who would never have an opportunity to get to Jesus for salvation. I know that these ministries are not always the most palatable for some people, but there are people in your city who could use you to get out of your comfort zone to pick them up and bring them to Jesus. Yes, these people may not fit the “perfect” person who will fit into the model church, but God still loves them, and Jesus died for them, and they need someone to have faith for them to get them to Jesus.
Second, you must be willing to overcome obstacles if you are going to have faith for others. Having faith for others will not be easy because there will be many things that try to stop you from getting them to Jesus. You need to develop the grit and determination to overcome if you are going to have faith for others. You cannot easily quit and have the faith to get others to Jesus.
Third, you must be willing to be inconvenienced to have faith for others. Faith throws convenience out the window because faith understands it is never convenient to help others. Faith is all about helping others, which means you will have to die to self and be inconvenienced so that your faith can help others. My friend, do you have faith for others? People need you today. Let me challenge you to have a greater faith, and that is faith for others because this type of faith is where true fulfillment is found in life.
