“And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?”
Faith is the core of the Christian life. You will never please God without faith. You will never accomplish anything great for the LORD without faith. You will waste your time in the Christian walk without faith. The believer is saved by faith, and the believer must walk by faith. It is the believer’s faith in God that causes them to attempt mighty things for God. It is the faith of a missionary that causes them to leave their homeland for foreign soil. It is the faith of a young person that causes them to burn their dreams to live a life of full-time service for the LORD. It is always faith that causes anyone to forsake everything in a belief that God has something greater for them.
However, faith’s absence always causes the believer to live a life of sight. Satan’s target is always the faith of the believer. If he can get the believer to not act on faith, he can hurt the cause of Christ. You must understand that Satan is not always trying to get the believer to live a life of sin, but he would be pleased if the believer just didn’t live a life of faith. Satan always wins when faith is absent. Faith’s absence always brings the wrong companions. In the Scriptures, you will find several things are present when faith is absent.
First, fear will always be present when faith is absent. In the verse above, the disciples feared because they had no faith. You will find fear will control your life when you have no faith. Faith is the only thing that drives fear away. If you listen to fear, you will never act by faith, and if you don’t act by faith, you will never see what God could have done through you.
Second, doubt will always be present when faith is absent. Doubt is the enemy of faith. Faith flees when doubt arrives; however, doubt dissipates when faith is embraced. You will always live in doubt if you don’t let faith make your decisions.
Third, excuses for shallow works will always be present when faith is absent. In Matthew 16:8, the disciples were giving their excuses as to why nothing could be done when, if they had faith, they would have seen that God could have met the needs. Your life will be filled with excuses if faith is vacated from your Christian walk.
Fourth, unbelief will always be present when faith is absent. You will never believe that God can do great works in your day if you don’t live a life of faith. Faith believes revival can always happen. Faith believes that lives can still be salvaged. Faith believes in the power of restoration; whereas, doubt criticizes the fallen and doesn’t believe they deserve a right to be used again. Unbelief always keeps God’s work of faith from working in a life, church or ministry.
Fifth, unforgiveness will always be present when faith is absent. In Mark 2:5, it was the power of faith that caused a man to get saved. You will find that the soul winner always has more faith than the lazy believer. Faith believes that God meant that any person could get saved no matter what they have done or are doing when He said, “Whosoever.”
Sixth, inner turmoil will always be present when faith is absent. In Mark 5:34, Jesus told the lady to “go in peace.” The life of faith always brings the believer to be at peace with God and themselves. Those who don’t live a life of faith are always struggling with their salvation because they have no works of faith. You will only find the peace that passes all understanding when you choose to live by faith.
