“And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.”
From the time that God promised Abraham that He would make of him a great nation, time, troubles and obstacles all seemed to keep him from the promise. In fact, Abraham never saw the fulfillment of God’s promise to him, but that did not stop him from leaving his homeland by faith. From the time that God promised Abraham that He would make of him a great nation to the time that Israel obtained the promise, they endured four hundred years of bondage, forty years of wandering through the wilderness, and battles to obtain the Promised Land before they finally saw the promise to Abraham come true. Had Abraham or the children of Israel quit, they would have never seen God’s promise come true. Several truths are found in this promise that can help you with God’s will and the promises of God that you claim.
First, God never said that the fulfillment of a promise would be easy. Just because God promised to do something for you doesn’t mean that He will give it to you without a struggle. Most of the promises of God are going to go through trying times before they are realized in the life of the believer. Too many believers give up on God’s promises because they didn’t expect the battles to be a part of the promise before it came to reality. My friend, God never promised that His promises come without a struggle, but His promises are true even when you must struggle before seeing them come to fruition. Always remember that God’s promise wouldn’t be worth much if you didn’t have to go through battles before the promise materialized.
Second, no promise of God will be realized without faith. Every promise of God requires faith before He allows the believer to see the fulfillment of the promise. God wants to see the believer have faith and trust in Him before He gives them His promises. If you don’t have the faith to follow through on God’s promise, you will never experience the joy that comes from God making the promise a reality.
Third, every promise of God is packaged with struggles. You must realize that struggles are a part of God’s promises. Inside of the promises of God are times of journeying in a wilderness, opportunities of faith for God to perform the miraculous, and battles to overcome the onslaught of Satan who tries to keep you from the fulfillment of God’s promise. It takes determination to continue and grit to endure if you are going to see God’s promises fulfilled in your life.
Fourth, you will never see God’s promises fulfilled if you quit. Quitting is the greatest inhibitor that keeps believers from seeing God’s promises come true in their lives. Many people quit just before the promise comes true. You can’t let the opportunities of sin cause you to quit on seeing God’s promise fulfilled in your life. You can’t let discouragement keep you from continuing toward the promises of God. You must not let the length of time from the promise to the fulfillment of the promise cause you to quit before you see God’s promise come true in your life. My friend, don’t quit before you see God’s promises fulfilled in your life. No matter how difficult the times are that you are going through, you will be thankful that you continued when God fulfills His promise in your life.
