“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
Being full is having no more capacity to take in whatever has filled the container. We often say when we are done eating, “I am full.” We say that because we don’t feel that we can eat any more without getting sick. There are several things in the Scriptures of which God says should fill us until we are full. Not just almost full, but full, completely to the top so nothing else can get in is. Let me share with you five things that the Scriptures say should fill the Christian.
First, the Christian should be full of grace. Being full of grace means that the Christian should have the ability to do right without hurting others. In other words, it is taking the edge off your response to what others do to you. Being full of grace is be courteous to people while you do the work of the LORD. My friend, you don’t have to be a jerk to serve the LORD. People should see your ability to get along with those who are a bit harsh with you. Being full of grace is being able to handle difficult situations without damaging people. When you are full of grace, you will be able to help the sinner without destroying them as a person.
Second, the Christian should be full of truth. It is interesting that grace comes before truth. God wants the Christian to do everything right, but be careful to handle truth in a gracious manner. The Christian must fill themselves so much with truth that there is no room for false doctrine to seep inside of them. Being full of grace and truth means that you can be kind to people without compromising truth.
Third, the Christian should be full of joy. John 16:24 says, “Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.” One of the best ways to always be joyful is to spend time with the LORD in prayer. Praying has a way of changing the Christian’s spirit. Being joyful is having a positive outlook constantly in spite of the overwhelming circumstances of life. The only way you will be full of joy is by spending time with the LORD in prayer. You will never feel that you are going to come through your circumstances without the LORD giving you that assurance in prayer. If you lack in the area of joy, it is because of an anemic prayer life.
Fourth, the Christian should be full of faith. According to Acts 6:8, Stephen was a man who was “full of faith.” When a Christian is full of faith, it will result in God doing great wonders and miracles in their life. If you allow doubt to influence your life, you will never see God perform the mighty works through you that He desires to do. My friend, you don’t have to be a full-time servant of the LORD to see God perform wonders and miracles in your life; you just need to be a Christian who is full of faith for God to do those wonders and miracles through you. It all comes down to if you will trust God. If you trust the LORD with everything, you will find God doing wonders and miracles through you because you are full of faith.
Fifth, the Christian should be full of the Holy Ghost. Several times in the Scriptures we see that people were full of the Holy Ghost. If you are going to be full of the Holy Ghost, you are going to have to be emptied of self. Holy Ghost fullness will never be a part of your life as long as there is any trace of selfishness is in you. Let me challenge you to die to yourself so the Holy Ghost can fill you and empower you.
