“Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.”
It could be that the only thing that kept Daniel and his friends alive and from doing things that were wrong was that they were in favor with the “prince of the eunuchs.” Had Daniel squandered the favor God gave him, he might have been forced to eat the king’s meat that had been offered to idols. Had Daniel wasted the favor God gave him, he would have probably been killed when the decree was given to kill all the wise men. Daniel used the favor God gave him wisely, and it not only benefited him, but it benefited God’s cause.
You will never make an impact for Christ with your life if you don’t come into favor with man. Whether or not you like it, people have to like you in order for you to be able to influence them. I have never seen a jerk influence people for Christ. The people God has used the most are people who were likable. It doesn’t mean they compromised their beliefs; it simply means they didn’t allow their personality or likeableness to be the thing that drove people away. Let me give you a few thoughts on getting favor.
First, favor is earned, not granted. You don’t inherit favor; you earn it. People don’t have to like you, but they like you because you earn their favor. You will never earn favor by not being kind and by avoiding people. They need to see you and be around you if you are going to earn their favor.
Second, don’t abuse the favor God has given you. Don’t make life about yourself. The worst thing you can do is to abuse the favor you have as a way to get things from people. Let me encourage you not to make your life or ministry about you. If you have earned favor, don’t use it to benefit yourself.
Third, use your favor to further the cause of Christ. The best way to use the favor you have earned is to use it to help influence people for Christ. Certainly, it will benefit you if you have earned favor, but use your favor to help bring others to Christ. When people you are working with begin to like you, use that favor as an opportunity to witness to them about Christ. There is no doubt in my mind that God gave you favor so that you can be a better witness to those with whom you have earned it.
Fourth, use your favor to help others. One of the best ways to keep the favor you have earned is by using the influence of your favor to help others in their struggles. Everything that God has given you is for the benefit of His cause so that you can help others. When you see someone in need and you have the wherewithal to help them because you are in favor with someone who can help them, then use that favor to be a help.
Fifth, continue working at winning favor. God may bring favor, but you must keep it. Once you have earned favor with others, you must continue to do what it takes to keep it. You must not acquire the mentality that you will always keep the favor. Keep servicing the favor you have earned by doing what you did to get it, and you will benefit by keeping that favor.
Sixth, if you don’t have favor, change what is keeping you from getting it. Instead of using excuses as to why you haven’t earned favor, figure out what is keeping you from it and change yourself. Having favor will help you in life, and it will help you to influence others as you serve Christ.
