God’s Favorite

Psalm 121:8 “The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.”

Has it ever seemed that some people are God’s favorite? I know this sounds like a boastful statement, but I truly feel like I am God’s favorite. I am certainly not a perfect person, and I am certainly not any more special than any other person. However, I will say that it seems that God has protected me in my life from making foolish decisions that would hurt my ability to be the person that He wants me to be. Now, you can become God’s favorite as well because what God does for one, He will do for all.

This psalm shows the secret to becoming God’s favorite. The verse above says that the LORD “shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.” What does God preserve us from? He preserves us from all evil. He is your shade from the hurt of life. He is the keeper of your soul to keep that which would change you from changing you. In other words, when you become God’s favorite, He will keep you from doing things or from things swaying you if you do whatever it takes to become His favorite.

With this in mind, what does it take to become God’s favorite? Verses 1-2 shows the secret when they say, “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.” The key to becoming God’s favorite is where you go to get your help. The word “help” shows four actions you must do to become God’s favorite so that He will preserve your going out and your coming in.

First, you become God’s favorite when God becomes the One you turn to for all your actions. Who do you turn to for help? It is not that God is against you going to others for help; He just wants to be the first one you turn to when you need help. God can certainly use others to help you in life, but He wants to be the One you immediately turn to for wisdom and help when you face complex situations in life.

Second, you become God’s favorite when He becomes your remedy for all situations in life. God is the cure for all problems in life. Sadly, there are some who turn to medical doctors, vices, alternate lifestyles, bad habits, or other people for remedies to life’s problems, and then they wonder why their life is messed up. My friend, God is the remedy to every situation in your life. Turning to God first when life takes adverse turns is the sure action to finding your remedy to your adverse situation.

Third, you become God’s favorite when you turn to God in the tight spots of life. When you have nowhere else to go, to whom do you turn? God does not mind being the emergency call for immediate help. If you want God to preserve you from bad decisions, go to Him when you are faced with those tight spots that life has placed you in.

Fourth, you become God’s favorite when you desire for God to stop you when you are about ready to do something that would hinder you from being who He wants you to be. God will preserve you from doing wrong when you desire Him to stop you from doing anything that would pull you away from Him. Are you ok with God stopping you from doing wrong even if it hurts you? When you are ok with God doing anything to stop you from doing wrong, even if it hurts, is when He will preserve you from all evil.
