Guaranteed Blessings

Genesis 22:16
“And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:”

One of the strangest requests by God to a person was given to Abraham when God told him to sacrifice his son. It was not just his son that God asked for, but it was his only son. The amazing part about Abraham’s response was that he obeyed God and took the journey to the top of Mount Moriah. It had to be one of the most difficult journey’s Abraham had taken, but his love for God was so great that he couldn’t help but obey even if it meant he lost his only son, the son of his hope and dreams. It was because of his willingness to sacrifice his son that brought God’s blessings on his life. This incident in Abraham’s life reveals three things the believer can do that always guarantee God’s blessings.

First, his faith brought God’s blessings on his life. Abraham had the faith that God would bring his son back to life even though he thought he would have to kill him. Hebrews 11:19 reveals Abraham’s faith when it says, “Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead…” Faith always brings God’s blessings on one’s life. You can’t please God without faith, but when you step out by faith God rewards you with His blessings.

Second, sacrifice brought God’s blessings on his life. The verse above shows that Abraham was willing not to withhold his only son. This was a great sacrifice on Abraham’s part, but God rewarded it. The degree to which you are willing to sacrifice your self, possessions and life will determine the degree to which God will bless you. Whatever you withhold from God is the key to God’s greatest blessings. If you are not willing to give up the one thing you have drawn a line at, you will never see God’s greatest blessing for which He placed you on this Earth to do.

Third, obedience brought God’s blessings on his life. Verse 18 shows that it was Abraham’s obedience that brought God’s blessings. To what degree are you willing to obey God? Many believers will never see God’s blessings on their life because they are not willing to completely obey God. You can’t expect God’s blessings with partial obedience. There must be total obedience if you want God’s blessings on your life.

These three things always bring God’s blessings, but there are three things you must realize about doing these things. First, it is never easy to do these things, but they are always worth doing. God never said it would be easy to live by faith, to sacrifice everything for the cause of Christ, and to obey Him with everything He tells you to do, but it is worth doing if you want God’s blessings on your life. There are times when these things will be difficult, but you can’t let the difficulty of doing these things to stop you from doing them.

Second, your love for God will be exposed by your faith, sacrifice and obedience. You show me the degree you are willing to live by faith, to sacrifice everything, and to obey in all that God commands you to do and I will show you how much you love God. Only a deep love for God will motivate a believer to do these things.

Third, God’s blessings won’t always be immediate; therefore, you must never quit. Just because you don’t see God’s immediate blessings doesn’t mean you made the wrong choice; you must trust God that He will bless and continue doing these things until you realize His blessings on your life.
