He Went His Way
Luke 22:4
“And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.”
The biggest mistake that Judas made is that he chose to go HIS way. The moment Judas chose to leave the way of Christ to walk his way was the moment that his life took a downward way. Had Judas refused to take his way, he would have never betrayed the Saviour. Had he heeded the Scriptures, he would have never communed with the crowd who only wanted to use him to accomplish their agenda. Judas chose to do things his way, and his way led to death.
You always have a choice which way you choose to walk in life, but you better be careful to choose to walk in the LORD’s way because every time you choose to walk in your way, it always leads to death. Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” You cannot choose to walk in your way and think that you know what is the right way. You can’t rely on what you “think” is the right way because you don’t know the end of your life. You must always walk in the LORD’s way if you are going to walk the right way of life because His way leads to life. You can’t try to get saved “your way” because your way will lead to Hell. You can try to live life the way you think is best, but your way often leads to the wrong way which is the way of death. Let me caution you concerning a few things about which way you choose to live.
First, your way may not be bad, but is it God’s way? The fact that your way is not bad doesn’t matter. What you must settle is if the way you want to live the same way that God wants you to live? There are many times that what believers want to do is not bad, but it is not the way that God wants them to go. For instance, if God calls a person to do one thing, but they choose another thing that is not bad, the way that is not Scripturally bad becomes bad because it is not God’s way. You have to always understand that it doesn’t matter that your way is not bad; it only matters if the way you are going is the way God wants you to go.
Second, you don’t know where your way will take you. Your way is an unproven way because your way is not chosen by God. The one thing you can be assured of is that God knows where He is taking you, and you are always safe walking in His way. The fact that you are walking in the way that “seems” right to you should tell you that that way is the way to death. You are not to walk in the way that seems right; you are to walk in the way that God’s Word says is right.
Third, your way is always the wrong way because God wants you to walk in His way. God didn’t place you on this Earth to walk in your way; He placed you on this Earth to walk in His way. God created you for a specific task to fulfill in your life, and any other way than that way is the wrong way for you. You should never be looking to find out what you want to do, but you should always be looking to find out what God wants you to do.
My friend, the only way you will find truth and life is in following Jesus’ way. John 14:6 says, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” You cannot be walking in your way and be right with God because Jesus is the way. Let me caution you about going your way. Your way always leads to death, but God’s way always leads you to enjoy life to its fullest. You cannot find fulfillment in life in any other way than God’s way.
