His Way

Psalm 18:30
“As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.”

We often talk about the way of the LORD, but what does it mean to walk in His way? When we are looking at His way, we are talking about how He conducts himself. For instance, if I were to talk about my wife’s way, I would tell you how she normally conducts herself on a daily basis. As I talk about my wife, I would say that she always does something a certain way. That is what we are talking about when we talk about God’s way. We are talking about how He always does something. However, how do we know His way? Three things are very evident throughout the Scriptures that show us His way.

First, His way is judgment. Deuteronomy 32:4 says, “He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.” In order for their to be judgment, there must be a determination of what is right and wrong. In other words, His way is a way where He defines right and wrong. Christian, if you are going to walk in the way of the LORD, you are going to have to determine right and wrong. With everything you do, you are going to have to have to make a decision as to whether it is right or wrong. A person with no judgment is a person whose way leads to heartache. As difficult as it may be, you are going to have to say that certain people are good or bad. You are also going to have to determine what is right and wrong with the places you go, the people you see, and the actions you do. If you are going to walk in His way, you are going to have to make judgments.

Second, His way is true. Revelation 15:3 says, “And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.” When talking about the ways of the LORD being true, He is saying that His way is unchanging. When I worked in construction as a young man, I often looked at 2×4’s to determine if they were true. In other words, I looked down the board to see if it was straight because we needed straight boards for studs. God’s way is true or unchanging. When you eye His way, you find that it never changes. Malachi 3:6 says about the LORD, “For I am the LORD, I change not…” If the Christian is going to walk in His way, they are going to have to become an unchanging person. In other words, determine what is right and wrong, and walk down the right path without wavering. Too many Christians are not true because they waver between the LORD’s way and the world’s way. My friend, determine what is right, and be true to that way.

Third, His way is perfect. The verse above says, “As for God, his way is perfect…” The word “perfect” is talking about being complete. In other words, His way is a way of excellence. Christians who walk in the way of the LORD are Christians who settle for nothing short of excellence. God’s way is not a way of mediocrity, but His way is a way of excellence. You will never settle for anything short of excellence if you are walking in the LORD’s way. Always remember that the greatest enemy of excellence is good. When you think that something is good enough, it is not good enough if it is not done in excellence. If you are going to be the proper representative of the LORD, you are going to have to make sure that what you do is right, never changing, and always striving for excellence. That is what it means to walk in His way.
