Holy Ghost Fullness

Luke 4:1
“And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,”

One of the great needs for every Christian is to be full of the Holy Ghost. You will never be able to serve the LORD successfully through your own power, but it takes the power of the Holy Ghost to live the Christian life. Many people have tried to serve the LORD in their own flesh and found that it left them disillusioned and discouraged because you cannot do a holy work in a fleshly power.

Jesus showed the importance of being filled with the Holy Ghost in His own life. Even Jesus needed the Holy Ghost fullness to live for God in the flesh. If Jesus, Who is the Son of God, needed the power of the Holy Ghost to live for God in this world, you and I most definitely need the Holy Ghost fullness. What does it mean to be full of the Holy Ghost? In Luke 4, five things are evident when you are full of the Holy Ghost.

First, Holy Ghost fullness is Spirit led and not spirit led. I want you to notice the difference of the capitalization. When you are full of the Holy Ghost, your spirit won’t influence what you do, but God’s Spirit will influence your attitude and what you do for the LORD. Jesus was “led by the Spirit.” How you feel about things cannot determine what you do. You must let what the Spirit knows is best to determine what you will and will not do, and how you will and will not act. You can never be filled with the Holy Ghost as long as your spirit is in control.

Second, Holy Ghost fullness causes you to respond with the Word and not to respond with your word. It is interesting that Jesus always responded to Satan with the Word of God. When you are filled with the Holy Ghost, you will find that you will seek to respond with God’s Word instead of man’s philosophy and thoughts. Too many people are allowing man’s words to be their response instead of allowing the Holy Word of God to be their choice of how to respond to every situation.

Third, Holy Ghost fullness causes you to give glory instead of seeking glory. Jesus never one time sought to bring glory to Himself; rather, He always desired to give glory to the Father. The Holy Ghost cannot fill you when you make everything about yourself for the sake of receiving man’s accolades. The purpose of the Holy Ghost filling you is so that you can point others to God. If you want to be filled with the Holy Ghost, you must endeavor to point people to Jesus Christ daily and be quick to take any praise pointed towards you and deflect it towards God.

Fourth, Holy Ghost fullness causes you to seek to serve and not seek to be served. Satan tried to get Jesus to worship him with the lure that He would have power for others to serve Him; however, Jesus understood that He was to worship the LORD. You will never have the Holy Ghost fill you as long as you are concerned with others bowing to your needs and doing everything according to your whims. Holy Ghost fullness causes you to seek to serve others. Holy Ghost fullness causes you to be outward focused instead of inward focused.

Fifth, Holy Ghost fullness causes you to lose your soul for the sake of seeking souls. The whole purpose of being filled with the Holy Ghost is so that you can be empowered to reach the lost for Christ. Christian, if you will lose yourself for the sake of reaching the lost, the Holy Ghost will gladly fill you.
