Romans 6:22 “But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.”
Sin is an every person battle, but sin doesn't have to be the last page of your story; you can have victory in Christ. To think that you don't need to be free from sin is only lying to yourself. Romans 3:10 says, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:” God also says in Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Either you are a sinner or God is lying. Therefore, to think that you don't need to be freed from sin is to be comfortable with sin. You will never truly enjoy the Christian walk until you are freed from the sin that steals your joy. The verse above shows how to be free from sin, and I would like to share these steps with you so that you can enjoy the Christian walk.
First, you must be saved to be freed from sin. When I say free from sin, I am talking about you having the ability to have victory over sin. You cannot be free from sin as long as your sins are not paid. Sin is still your master until you get saved, but once you get saved, you have the ability to be free from sin because the Holy Spirit lives within you can give you freedom from sin. If the only reason to be saved is so that you can be free from sin, that alone is a great reason to get saved.
Second, you must serve God. You will notice that we are freed from sin by becoming “servants to God.” You must switch who you serve if you are going to be free from sin. You can choose to serve sin and live a miserable life, or you can switch to serving God and find freedom from sin. Nobody has ever conquered sin who has not served God. You cannot serve God and sin at the same time; therefore, to be free from sin, you must get busy serving the LORD. To think that you are going to sit and overcome sin is a lie; you overcome sin through service.
Third, you must have fruit. Everything has fruit, and serving God gives you fruit, just like living in sin has fruit. The difference between the fruit of serving God and serving sin is that the fruit of serving sin is rotten, but the fruit of serving God brings joy and freedom. I would much rather labor in service to God and have joy than to labor in sin and experience defeat and heartache.
Fourth, you must live a holy life. You cannot be free from sin and not separate from the world. You cannot continue to run with the same crowd that lives in sin and expect to be free from sin. When you got saved, you changed ownership to God; therefore, you must realize that you are not your own to do what you want to do. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” Every time you are tempted to sin, you must remind yourself and those tempting you that you belong to God.
Finally, you must keep your eye on eternal rewards. God says that the end of serving Him and living a holy life is “everlasting life.” In other words, He is saying that rewards are set in Heaven when you choose to take the steps to be free from sin. Keep your eyes on the focus of eternal rewards and you will find it easy to do the steps that free you from sin. Are you tired of your sin? Take these steps and you can be free from the sin that besets you.
