I Am In Trouble
Psalm 69:17
“And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily.”
In the verse above, the psalmist is pleading with God when he says, “I am in trouble.” Have you ever been at a point in your life when you got yourself into trouble and you needed help? Most of the time we get ourselves into a mess and need help to get out of it. The good news for the believer is that God is the master of getting His children out of their self-created messes. If you find yourself in trouble, there are several things you need to do to get yourself out of trouble.
First, don’t blame God for your trouble. The psalmist said, “And hide not thy face from thy servant…” Too many times we blame God for the situations in which we placed ourselves. You will never get yourself out of your situation by blaming God for it. The reason a believer gets themselves into trouble is not because they had too many church services to attend. The reason a believer gets themselves into trouble is not because they had too many standards of holiness. The reason the believer got themselves into trouble is not because they served the LORD too much. The reason the believer gets themselves into trouble is because of their own fleshly decisions which took them away from the blessings of God. Stop blaming God and the Christian life for the troubles that foolish decisions and worldly living caused.
Second, draw nigh to God when you get into trouble. The worst thing many believers do when they get into trouble is they go further away from God instead of drawing nigh to Him. The psalmist said in verse 18, “Draw nigh unto my soul…” You will never get out of your self-made troubles by avoiding the God who can deliver you from them. God says in James 4:8, “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.” God will help you if you will make the first move towards Him. Stop waiting for God to make the first move to get you out of trouble and make the first move yourself. If you will make the first move to come back to God, you will find that God will quickly meet you to deliver you from your troubles. The answer for deliverance from your troubles is not to push further away from God, but the answer is to draw closer to God in action, spirit and heart.
Third, don’t add to your troubles by running to artificial deliverers. Many people try to drown their troubles in a vice only to find that the vice adds to their trouble. You will never get away from your troubles by going to vices. My friend, the vices of this world only multiply the sorrows of your troubles. Your answer to the troubles you are in will never be found in the vices that the world has to offer. The answer to your troubles is always found in God.
Fourth, don’t continue to add iniquity to your troubles. One of the worst things you can do when in trouble is to give up and just choose to do worse. What got you into the mess you are in is sin, and adding more sin won’t help your situation. If you choose the way of sin when you are in trouble, you will only find that your troubles will be multiplied.
My friend, God is the answer to all of your troubles. God is the master trouble-solver. If you will humble yourself, and realize you are the one who got yourself into trouble, go to God and ask for His help, He will gladly help you. Whatever you do, always remember that there is no trouble too big from which God can’t deliver you.
