“Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.”
One of the most encouraging statements in the Scriptures is found in the verse above. God says about Satan, “…because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.” Satan’s time to do his work is coming to an end. Because he knows his time is short, he is doing a work in wrath. It would be wise for the believer to remember that Satan’s wrath-filled work is a destructive work. He cares not who he hurts because he has but a short time. Because Satan’s time is short, there are several things the Scriptures show us what he is trying to do. Let me share with you his tactics so that you can beware of them and avoid them.
First, Satan has declared war with the serving believer. Verse 17 says, “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” It is imperative for the believer to realize we are not at war with other people, but we are at war with Satan. Our opponent is not the individual who is broken by sin, but our opponent is Satan. Satan has declared war against the saint who does right. He is not so interested in the disobedient believer because they are not helping the cause of Christ. If you find that the Devil is not interested in your Christian walk, it is probably because you don’t have much of a Christ-like walk. He is against those who keep God’s commandments, and his ultimate war is to destroy them.
Second, Satan is out to deceive. Revelation 20:10 says, “And the devil that deceived them…” One of the reasons you need to study the Scriptures is because the Devil is out to deceive, not only the lost but also the believer. The Devil is a liar, and all of his works are done in deception. The reason you can’t believe his tempting offers is because they are filled with deceit and lies. My friend, you must be a student of the Word if you are going to combat the deception and lies of the Devil. You will never be able to decipher his deception and lies without looking at everything in life through the spectacles of the Scriptures.
Third, Satan is out to destroy. 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” Make no mistake about it, Satan wants to destroy you. He doesn’t play fair because he is at war with you. Every work of Satan has an end, and the end is destruction. Why would he want to do such destruction to the believer? Because the believer is the servant of Christ, and he is out to do as much damage to the work of Christ because he knows that his time is short.
Satan is real, but we know the end. The end of Satan is found in Revelation 20:10 which says, “And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.” Praise the LORD! One day the Devil will get his just reward for all the deception, lies and destruction he has caused to the saved and the lost. Because his time is short, let me caution you to be aware of his tactics, because he is out to destroy you. Moreover, let me encourage you by way of reminder that Satan’s time is short. Keep fighting and don’t give up in this battle, because you are on the winning side.
