Genesis 32:25
“And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.”

Jacob came to a point in his life when something had to change. His life had been filled with deception, and the dead bodies of deception that he had left behind seem to be coming back to haunt him. Esau was the biggest victim of deception, and he was now coming to see him. Jacob needed some type of intervention for this confrontation to not end the death of his family.

The night before he met Esau, there appeared a man who wrestled with Jacob whom we find out was God in verse 30. The verse above says that God “prevailed not against him.” Because God didn’t prevail, He caused his leg to be out of joint, but Jacob kept praying. Jacob’s determination to get God to intervene resulted in God’s blessing. Verse 28 shows why Jacob prevailed when it says, “…for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.”

Are you in need of an intervention? Do you find yourself coming at a point when God’s intervention is the only thing that is going to save you? The answer to this intervention is to wrestle with God until you prevail. God is teaching that He is willing to wrestle with you until you become determined enough to stay in prayer until He intervenes. Several lessons can be learned from this story that can help you to see God’s intervention in your circumstances.

First, stop wrestling with your circumstances and start wrestling with God. Too many believers are trying to change their own circumstances to no avail. Your life will continue to be the mess that it is as long as you try to manipulate your own circumstances. Before Jacob wrestled with God, he tried to work his own plan by splitting up his families. My friend, you will continue to go down the same road of heartache until you realize that only God can intervene.

Second, Divine intervention is the only answer to changing a dead-end life. When you see your life continually hitting a dead end is when you need to go to God in prayer. When your marriage continually hits the same destructive dead end, prayer is the only thing that can change it. When your family situation doesn’t change and you see the destruction the dead end is causing, you will find the solution to your problem through prayer. It doesn’t matter if your dead end is a situation on the job, ministry, finances, or changing habits, prayer is the answer to seeing real change.

Third, don’t give up in prayer until you prevail. When you are serious enough to pray until God intervenes is when you will prevail with God and see His hand change your situation. Too many people flippantly pray for their situation when they need to get alone with God and stay in prayer until God comes through. The saints of old used to call this, “Praying through.” You are going to find out that when you are at the dead-end street of your circumstance and something has to happen or you will die is when you become determined enough to wrestle with God until you prevail.

Are you willing to wrestle with God until He intervenes in your situation? When is the last time you prayed through the night until God answered? Until you have this type of determination, your life will continue to face the same dead end. My friend, keep praying until God comes through.
