1 Corinthians 5:6 “Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?”
When it comes to sin, God never classifies it as good or bad sin, big or little sin; He just calls it sin. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” You will notice that God didn't say that all have bad sin, but that “all have sinned.” It is man who classifies sin as good and bad, but God wants to establish that man has sinned. When you take the classification of sin away, you will realize that it is not whether it is a good or bad sin, but it is sin, and it must be dealt with.
God says in the verse above that “a little leaven” is what leaven the whole lump. Notice that God did not say that a lot of leaven leavens the lump, but just a little leaven is what influences the whole lump of bread that is being made. Our problem is that we are trying to deal with the “big” sins when God wants us to understand that there are no big or little sins and that ANY amount of sin will influence you for wrong.
A little sin affects your whole being. It is foolish to think that you can compartmentalize sin in your life and keep it in some corner of your heart without it affecting the rest of your life. There are no crevices where you can keep sin because a little sin will affect your whole life. Just a little sin affects your thinking process. Just a little sin affects your decisions. Just a little sin affects your attitude towards others. Just a little sin affects your spirit towards God and His Word. A little sin is like a little poison; it doesn't matter how much water there is, the whole glass of water is poisoned; likewise, sin influences every part of your life.
It is not that you have a “big” sin in your life that is affecting you; it is the fact that you have sin in your life affecting you. Any amount of sin affects your life and walk with God. If a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump, then every little sin is a big sin because it affects our whole being. You see, you have to realize that it is the little sin that is hurting you. It is the little bad thought that is affecting your life. It is the little lust that is ruining your thought life. It is the little gossip that is destroying your name. It is the little jealousy that is keeping you from enjoying life. It is the little bitterness that is keeping you from enjoying relationships in life. It is the little grudge that is keeping you from getting along with people. It is the little laziness that is keeping you from advancing in life. It is the little anger that is hurting your life. If you dealt with the “little” sins to the same degree that you deal with the “big” sins, you would find that you could live a victorious Christian life. It is not the big sin that is killing you; it is the little sin that you let go that is destroying your life.
My friend, if a little sin influences our whole being, we would be wise to get rid of any sin in our life. Let me ask you, what is that “little” sin that you are letting go in your life? Your little sin is not like a pet that you can play with and it not affect you; it is like a poisonous snake that has poisoned your life with its bite that is slowly destroying you from the inside out. Most people don't fall into big sin; they walk in “little” sin until it controls their whole life to their fall and destruction. If you don't want to become the next story that people talk about, deal with the little sin. Every fallen believer will tell you that they thought it would never happen to them, but it did happen to them because they didn't deal with the “little” sin in their life. For the sake of Christ, let me beg you to deal with any sin in your life because any sin will destroy you.
