Matthew 13:3 “And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;”
The enemies of soul winning are more interested in trying to define what type of ground each person is when God is interested in sowing the seed and letting the seed define the ground. If the sower in the parable above sowed seed according to the enemies of soul winning today, he would have never sowed seed. The sower knew that if he just sowed seed that he would eventually find good ground that would bring forth fruit that remains.
Soul winning is the heart of God. God the Father is so interested in soul winning that He sent His only begotten Son into the world so that the world could be saved. The Holy Spirit is so invested in soul winning that He promises to go with those who will sow the seed. Jesus is so interested in soul winning that He left Heaven to be the payment for the sins of mankind. Jesus showed us the importance of soul winning by making soul winning His first act He performed after spending forty days and nights fasting and praying to start His ministry. He emphasized the importance of soul winning by making His last words on earth a commission to the believer to go to the world and spread the Gospel to every person. The Scriptures show the importance of soul winning by giving us the book of Acts to show how soul winning can turn a world upside down for Christ. My friend, you cannot be right with God and not be a soul winner. Let me point out a couple observations about this parable.
First, the sower sowed seed by going. You will never become a soul winner until you go. You can talk about soul winning and say you believe in it, but you will never become a soul winner until you go soul winning.
Second, the sower went forth to sow seed. The Scriptures didn't say that the sower went forth to rake leaves. The Scriptures did not say that the sower went forth trying to be elected to political office. The Scriptures did not say that the sower went forth trying to clean up a movement. No, the sower went forth to sow. Most of the problems that believers get wrapped up in causes to solve could be solved if believers would simply go soul winning and sow the seed of the Gospel. The Gospel is what changes lives, not causes.
Third, the sower had failure many times, but he kept on sowing the seed. You will notice in this parable that the sower failed eighty percent of the time, but he didn't stop sowing seed. You may feel that soul winning doesn't work, but it does work if you keep on going. You cannot allow the failure of souls being saved to stop you from going soul winning. Furthermore, you cannot allow the failure of getting your converts to church cause you to stop from being a soul winner. Yes, you will likely see many people receive the seed, but never let the eighty percent failure rate of people getting saved and becoming fruitful believers cause you to stop from having the twenty percent success rate. You can focus on the eighty percent of people who don't do anything, or you can focus on the twenty percent and see great success.
Fourth, you will never find fruit that remains by trying to define how fertile the heart of the sinner is instead of just sowing the seed of the Gospel. My friend, let me encourage you just to sow the seed of the Gospel. You will get fruit that remains if you don't quit and just sow the Gospel everywhere you go.
