Laughing With God
Genesis 21:6
“And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.”
The verse above is not a verse of disrespect towards God; rather, it is a verse of praise. When Sarah said, “God hath made me to laugh…”, she was talking about how God honored her faith by giving her a child in her old age. She wanted everyone to know that when she laughed with God, that she was laughing because of His ability to honor His Word no matter how impossible it may be.
Christian, God is still in the laughing business. When I talk about the laughing business, He is capable of performing the miraculous in our lives. The God Who was able to give Sarah a child when she was past age is still able to do the miraculous through your life. God’s power is not confined to the reasonings of man. God can make us laugh today just like He made Sarah laugh when she looked at Isaac. Let me show you three ways God laughs with us.
First, God laughs with us because of how we doubted it could be done. Every time Sarah looked at Isaac, she had to laugh at how she doubted God would follow through with His promise exactly how He said He would. I wonder how many times we have looked back and laughed at how God revealed our lack of faith in Him. Let laughter at your lack of faith in the past bolster your faith in what seems impossible in the present.
Second, God laughs with us because of His ability to make the impossible possible. Christian, you should look at what many think is impossible and just begin to laugh because you serve a God Who can make it possible. Every time you are faced with the impossible, it is time to start laughing because God can make it happen. Others may laugh at God to scorn Him and His power, but you should laugh at the circumstance because you know God is about ready to do the impossible in your presence.
Third, God laughs with us because there is no god able to do what He can do. When I look at all the gods of this world, I laugh because they can’t do what He can do. Sarah’s laughter with God was because she understood that only He could give her a child in her old age. If your faith doesn’t waver, you will look back and laugh at how close you came to the brink before God came through in power.
Christian, these three things should remind us to do three things when we face the impossible. First, don’t doubt God’s power. I know that many times the mountains we face seem impossible, but God is able to make us laugh no matter how big our problems may be. The next time you are faced with the impossible, just laugh with God instead of doubting Him because He can help you through whatever you are facing.
Second, keep trusting God. There may be times when you are just about to give up, but you must never stop trusting God to trust your own feeble reasoning. God is very capable of helping you if you will keep trusting Him.
Third, don’t give up on God. Abraham and Sarah almost gave up on God, but they continued doing what they had to do to have a child, and God came through. When you face the impossible, keep doing what you are supposed to do, and God will always do His part. When God sees your faith in action, it is then that He rewards it by performing the miraculous through your life.
