Revelation 14:13 “And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”
One of the great desires of anyone with any initiative is not to have what they worked for die when they go to Heaven. It ought to be your desire that when you die, what you invested your life in continues to go on. You can leave a big footprint on this world if you learn to let your works follow you after you go to Heaven.
My predecessor where I pastor, Bro. Charley O’Daniel, left a big footprint even though he is in Heaven. The work that he labored in still goes on even after he is in Heaven, and because his work goes on, he is still gathering fruit and rewards because he left a big footprint. No, the work was not the size it is now, but he kept serving God and doing right until the day he went to Heaven, and it has resulted in his works following him.
You should desire to leave a big footprint on eternity. The only way you are going to leave a big footprint on eternity is by having works that follow you. What does it mean to have works that follow you? It means that your work and labor continues on even after you go to Heaven. How can we get our works to follow us so we can leave a big footprint on eternity?
First, you must do a work. You cannot leave a footprint on eternity if you are not doing something to leave a footprint. One reason you need to get involved in your church ministries is so that you can leave a footprint on eternity. You cannot leave a footprint on eternity if you don't have a work that you are building while you are alive.
Second, you must labor. Nobody has left a footprint on eternity by playing through life. It takes hard labor to leave works that follow you after you have stepped onto Heaven’s shores. However, it is worth the sweat and labor to leave a big footprint on eternity.
Third, you must battle. You cannot leave a footprint on eternity if you quit when the battle comes. You cannot expect to serve the LORD and not have battles. If you don’t want the Devil to fight you, don’t do anything for God. However, I would rather fight the Devil and leave a footprint on eternity than never fight a battle with Satan and waste my years on this earth.
Fourth, you must invest your life in people. Doing the work of God is working with people. You cannot leave a footprint on eternity and not work with people. Yes, working with people can become irritating because of their weaknesses, but it is worth it when you leave a footprint on their lives so they can continue to do the work of the LORD after you have gone to Heaven.
Fifth, you must serve the LORD until you die. Those whose works follow them are those who “die in the Lord.” In other words, the only thing that stopped them from working was death. My friend, the one great thing you must do to have works that follow is never to quit until God takes you to Heaven. The greatest reason Bro. O’Daniel’s work follows him is because death was the only thing that stopped him. If you are going to leave a big footprint on eternity, you must build a work with people and do that work until you die.
