Look to the Throne
Revelation 5:5
“And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.”
When John looked to the throne of God, he noticed a book that God held in His right hand. As Heaven’s attention was brought to the book, an angel proclaimed, “Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?” They began to search Heaven for someone who was worthy to open the book, but they found none. Attention was then brought back to the throne as one of the elders in Heaven reminded John, “Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.” What a great reminder that though nobody else was worthy to open the books, God was worthy and prevailed when no one else could do it.
This should be an encouragement to every Christian who is facing what may seem like insurmountable obstacles. Christian, you may look over the whole Earth to find someone who can help you with your problems, but let me remind you to look to the throne and see that God alone is the help you need for every problem you face. In verse 12, we are reminded of what God can do to help when all else fails.
First, look to the throne when you are in need of power. The power of God’s Holy Spirit can empower you to do the works that He has called you to do. You may look at God’s will for your life and think that there is no way you can do it, but let me point you to the throne of God and remind you that God has the power to help you fulfill His will for your life.
Second, look to the throne when you are in need of finances. When your financial situation seems to be caving in all around you, look to the throne and realize that God has the “riches” to finance every need for your life and ministry. So many times throughout my life I have looked to the throne to supply my financial needs, and He has never failed and has come through every time. You can try to find the finances yourself, but God is well capable of financing you as you live by faith in His will.
Third, look to the throne when you are in need of wisdom. Have you ever had a time when you didn’t know what to do, and nobody seemed to have the answer for your situation? My friend, look to the throne and realize that the God of wisdom will share His wisdom with you if you simply ask Him. He promises in James 1:5, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” The supply of wisdom you need to face every task can be yours if you will look to the throne and ask God to share His wisdom with you.
Fourth, look to the throne when you are in need of strength. If today you feel that you cannot take another step, look to the throne and realize that God can give you the strength you need to continue. So many times in the Christian life you will find yourself becoming weary, but those who “wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength.” (Isaiah 40:31)
What is your need today? Have you seemingly exhausted your resources and have come to the end of your rope? No matter what you face today, look to the throne and realize that God still sits on His throne and is capable of supplying whatever your need is for today.
