Luke 9:52 “And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.”
Jesus was about to go to Jerusalem for the last time before His crucifixion. He sent messengers before He got there “to make ready for him.” In other words, these messengers were to make ready for the Saviour to meet with His disciples. They were to secure the place, prepare the tables, and make sure everything was ready for Him to have His last supper with His disciples. What a great task these messengers were given. They were not making ready for just anyone, but they were making ready for the Saviour to meet with Him.
I believe one of the biggest reasons we don't see God meet with us personally when we go to church is because we don't make ready for the Saviour. Imagine how much more church could be a blessing if we made ready for the Saviour. My friend, every time you go to church could be a blessed service, and every time you go to church God could meet with you IF you made ready for Him to meet with you. Let me share several things you can do to make ready for the Saviour to meet with you every time you go to church.
First, prepare your mind to meet with the Saviour. Realize that you are going to meet with the King of kings. Realize that your Saviour is going to meet with you when you get to church. Part of the reason most people don't get anything from their church services is because they don't prepare their mind to meet with God. You would get much more from every service if you prepared your mind to meet with God.
Second, prepare your spirit to meet with the Saviour. You should never say that you “have to go to church,” but you should always have the spirit that you “get to go to church.” You should anticipate that God is going to meet with you. You will get much more from your church attendance if you don't make church attendance a punch clock that you have to clock in to be spiritual. Prepare your spirit by inviting people with you as you go to church. Having visitors with you helps you to have a spirit of excitement about being in church.
Third, prepare your body to meet with the Saviour. Get to bed earlier on Saturday nights so that you are not tired when you get to church. Don't be out late in the town on Saturday night because you must get your body ready to be rested for church the next day. Have your best clothes ready to wear to show God your love and respect to Him as you meet with Him in church.
Fourth, prepare your heart to meet with the Saviour. Decide that when you get to church that you are going to put your whole effort into the church services. Don't come to observe, but come to participate. Put your heart into the singing. Be involved with the preaching by saying “Amen” to the preaching in agreement. Be prepared to go to the altar in the invitation because you “know” that God will speak to your heart during the sermon. Don't have a hardened heart that says you won’t walk the aisle no matter what the preacher says or what the Holy Spirit speaks to your heart.
My friend, just as the pastor is to prepare the church services and the sermon every week, so you ought to prepare the way for God to meet with you in every service. You will find that every church service could be a life-changing service IF YOU prepared yourself for God to meet with you.
