Making All Things Work Together for Good
Romans 8:28
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
You don’t have to like everything that happens in your life to make everything turn out for good. It is a mindset not to let the problems in life become the excuse to sit and sulk over what has happened in your life. God reminds us that “we know…all things work together for good to them that love God.” In other words, we have been through it before, and it worked out for good. What you do with what you face in life will determine whether your adversities become good or bad. Let me point out several things that you must do if all things are going to work together for good.
First, you must realize that all things happen for a purpose. God didn’t say that just the good things happen for good, but He said that “all things” happen for good. If you are going to make what is happening in your life turn out for good, you are going to have to accept whatever life has brought your way. You cannot turn the bad in life around for good if you are going to determine that God didn’t know what He was doing when He allowed something bad to happen. Remember that “all things” means what you are going through right now. The sooner you accept that what you are going through is part of the ingredients for God to make good happen through your life, the sooner God can finish what He is doing.
Second, you must allow all things to “work together.” It is not easy to make bad turn out for good, but there is no enjoyment in life if everything came easy. The quickest way to let the bad in your life become good is to get busy serving the LORD in spite of what has happened in your life. God takes what has happened in your life and combines it with your spiritual work habits to make all things work together for good.
Third, you must love God in spite of what has happened in your life. Notice that “all things work together for good to them that love God.” Your love for God cannot be on trial. Your love for God is shallow if the only time you are going to love Him is when you agree with what life brings your way. My friend, a true love for God says that you won’t stop loving Him just because He didn’t stop the adversities that life has brought your way. Job understood this type of love, and you must acquire this type of love if what you are going through is going to be used as a tool to make good happen.
Fourth, you must determine to work things out for good. If you don’t have the determination to work things together for good, whatever you are facing won’t become a tool for good. The verse above doesn’t say that God makes all things work together for good, even though God will make it work together for good. The verse above implies that you must determine not to waste the adversities of life, but instead use them as a tool in your life to help others. Every adversity in life is a tool God has given you to make good happen out of the bad.
Fifth, you must pray if you are going to make all things work together for good. Verse 26 says that the Spirit of God helps us as we pray. My friend, ask God to give you the wisdom to know how to turn what you are facing into good. Prayer is always the key that helps the believer to take the adversities of life and turn them into good.
