Missing Life

post-title

Luke 10:41 “And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:”

Those who know me know that I am a very detailed and organized person. There is nothing wrong with being detailed and organized, but one great thing that being detailed and organized can do is that it can rob life and the joy that God wants you to have. If I am not careful, I can get so wrapped up in my details and organization that I miss the joy of the events for which I planned. If I am not careful, I will see what didn't work and miss the enjoyment of what God did with the things for which I planned. As important as being detailed and organized is, one must always be careful not to let details and organization cause you to miss the joy of the miracles that God has performed.

Martha was a very detail-oriented person. When she heard that Jesus was coming to her house, she wanted to make sure that everything was done right. She was busy in the kitchen making sure the meal was done right, but her busyness caused her to miss the presence of the Saviour in her house. Jesus told Martha that she was cumbered, careful, and troubled about many things. He was not rebuking her for these things, but he was rebuking her for allowing these things to cause her to miss  the miracle of His presence in her life. If you are going to enjoy life and the miracles of God’s presence, you must be careful that you don't let these three things steal joy from you.

Being cumbered in life will cause you to miss the joy of life and the presence of God. The word “cumbered” means to be hindered or loading life up with things that burden your life. There are many things that are not bad, but they are a burden that keeps you from enjoying life and serving God. Possessions have cumbered your life when they steal the joy of the presence of loved ones and serving God. My friend, one thing you must learn about possessions is that they will soon be out-of-date, and you will always soon look for an up-to-date possession. Don't let possessions rob you of the joy of family and from serving God. There is nothing wrong with possessions, but just don't let possessions be your focus of life.

Moreover, being careful about life will cause you to miss the joy of life and the presence of God. The word “careful” means to be detailed and organized. You must be careful not to get so wrapped up in the details and organization that you miss the joy of what you're trying to organize. Don't let details rob you of the joy of a big day in your church. Don't be so organized that you miss the thrill of God's miracles when something goes wrong. Organization is important, and caring for details is critical to success, but these things should never take away from God's hand working in your presence.

Furthermore, don't be so troubled that you miss the joy of life in the presence of God. The word “troubled” means to have a negative perception. You will miss the joy of God’s miracles when all you see is the negative in every church event. You have to realize that there will always be something that goes wrong in every big day that your church has or every event that your church has planned; however, you must not let what has gone wrong steal the joy of seeing God work. Certainly, you must fix what went wrong, but don't let a negative perception rob you from seeing the miracles that God has performed in your midst.
