Multiplying the Little
Luke 9:13
“But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people.”
Sometimes, it can be overwhelming when you look at the task at hand. There have been times in my life when I took over a task that at first seemed overwhelming, and I didn’t know how I was going to get it accomplished. The job can be so big that you don’t know where to start because you have so little abilities to do the job.
The disciples must have felt this same way when they looked at the multitude of people who were hungry, and they only had five loaves of bread and two fishes. Yet, the one thing the disciples had at their disposal that every believer has at their disposal is that they had Jesus who had to the power to take their little and multiply it to feed the thousands. You may feel like the disciples as you look at the tasks that you presently are facing, but if you are saved, you have at your disposal a God who can multiply your little to meet the needs of the great task, and still bless you beyond your imagination. There are five actions you must take if you want God to multiply your little ability to meet the needs of the great task.
First, you will never multiply your little until you have faith in God. It takes faith to believe God can multiply what you have to meet the great needs you face, but He can meet those needs if you will act in faith. You will never see the power of God work through your little until you step out by faith. I know it may be intimidating to step out by faith, but God will reward your act of faith if you will step out.
Second, you will never multiply your little until you obey God’s Word. The disciples had to obey God’s Word for Jesus to multiply the little they had, and you must obey God’s Word if you want God to multiply your little. There are times when obeying God may seem like it will hinder your ability to do the great task, but obedience to God’s Word always rewards you greatly in the future.
Third, you will never multiply your little until you organize your life. God can’t multiply the little through disorganization. Jesus had the disciples organize the multitudes before He fed them, and you must organize your life before He can begin to bless the little that you have. You will always find out that you can accomplish more when you are organized more than you ever will when you are disorganized.
Fourth, you will never multiply your little without a prayer life. After Jesus had the crowds organized, He then prayed and asked the Father to bless the food. Prayer is the key that starts the multiplying powers of God. You will always fall short of meeting the needs of the multitude of tasks at hand when you fail to pray and get God’s blessings on what you are doing.
Fifth, you will never multiply your little until you are broken. God must break you before He can multiply you. You will always find that God can make more out of you after you are broken. When a person is broken is when God gets the glory once He multiplies the fragments of their life. You can fight God when He tries to break you, or you can embrace it and realize that His breaking of your life is the tool He uses to multiply you far beyond what you can imagine. If you give the broken fragments of your life to God, He can take them and multiply them and take you to heights you never saw yourself achieving.
