Peace with God
Romans 5:1
“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:”
You will never be happy in life until you are at peace with God. Being at peace with God comes from two things. First, you cannot find peace with God until you accept Christ as your Saviour. Before a person gets saved, they are at enmity with God because they are a sinner. Sin demands a wage, and that wage is death. Someone has to die to pay for sin, and that someone who died to pay for sins was Jesus Christ. You can only find peace with God by accepting the payment of Christ for your sins.
Second, you find peace with God by living a righteous and holy life. No, you will never be sinless, but you cannot be at peace with God when you are knowingly living in sin. One reason believers doubt their salvation is because they live in sin, and sin always causes turmoil and doubt in the believer’s life. The easiest way to remove the unrest in your life so that you can be at peace with God is to be sure that you are right with God. Once you are saved and live your life for God, you will find a peace with God that produces five things in your life.
First, peace with God gives you the certitude that you are justified. If you are doubting your salvation, go back and look at the time that you accepted Christ as your Saviour and realize that He justified you. In other words, He sees your record from beginning to end and sees that it has been paid. Always remember that the security of your salvation does not depend on you and how you live, but it depends on the fact that God said that He eternally justified you.
Second, peace with God makes you comfortable to access God. When you are at peace with God, you will feel at ease about going into His presence with your requests. My friend, you have never deserved to have access to God, but your access to Him is because of His grace given because of faith.
Third, peace with God gives you composure in tribulation. How can one “glory in tribulation?” The only way that this happens is when you are at peace with God and know that He is in control of all things. Being at peace with God lets you know that all things work together for God’s good, and if it is good for God, it will eventually be for your good. You don’t have to like the tribulation that you are going through, but you can be at peace with it when you are at peace with God.
Fourth, peace with God gives you the certainty that God will come through. The hope that the believer has is that God is in control. The composure you find to walk through tribulation comes from the fact that you have the hope that God is powerful enough to handle your problems. When you give your problems to God because of your access to Him is when you find composure in tribulation because of the certainty that God is in control and will handle your problem properly.
Fifth, peace with God gives you the confidence that God loves you. When you are at peace with God, you will never doubt that He loves you. The believer who is at peace with God knows that they never deserved God’s love, but they understand that He loves them because He chooses to love them, not at their best, but He loves them at their worst. My friend, there is no better confidence to have than to know that God loves you and that confidence comes from being at peace with God.
