Isaiah 51:1
Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the LORD: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged.
Those who have lived a successful Christian life did not do so by accident, but they succeeded in that life by purposeful actions. God gives several actions that, if every believer followed, they would find they could live a successful life. Let me share these actions that will help you to live a successful life, and not just a successful life, but a successful Christian life.
The first action is to hearken. God says, Hearken to me. Nobody can live a successful life without paying attention and listening to God. Hearkening to someone is more than just paying attention to them, but it is doing what they tell you to do. Many believers listen to what they are supposed to do, but they don't follow what they are supposed to do. For instance, every believer has heard their pastor preach from God’s Word that they are to be faithful to all the church services; however, not every believer is faithful. In other words, they listened, but they did not hearken. You will never be successful in the Christian life without listening to God and doing what He tells you to do.
The second action is to follow. God says to follow after righteousness. In other words, your direction does matter. What you follow determines what you become. You cannot follow the wrong influences and end up in the right place spiritually. What you follow determines your direction. Better yet, who you follow determines your direction, and your direction determines the destination of where you will be in the future. You cannot follow the wrong people and influences and be what you are supposed to be for God. Whoever you follow will determine what you will become in life.
The third action is to seek. God says to seek the LORD. Matthew 7:7-8 says, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. You cannot live a successful Christian life without seeking the LORD by walking with Him. Every day of your life should be a walk with God. Every day of your life you should seek what the LORD wants you to do. Every day of your life you should seek who the LORD wants you to witness to. What you seek you will find, so it is incumbent upon you to be sure you are seeking the LORD. Your walk with God is critical to the success of what you will be for God. Nobody has an inconsistent walk with God and finds themselves living a victorious Christian life. A successful Christian life is a result of having a consistent walk with God.
The fourth action is to look. God says to look unto the rock whence ye are hewn. In other words, live a life of faith. Make God the One you trust in life, and if you make Him the One you trust in life, you will find yourself living a life of faith. When troubles come, trust God. When heartache arises, trust God. When you don't see a way out of your problems, trust God. It is who you trust that determines your tomorrow and its effects on your eternity. When life throws everything at you, be sure to look to God and trust Him.
My friend, these four actions will lead you to live a successful life if you make them actions that you follow daily.
