John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The verse above reminds me of Psalm 46:1, God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. God is not an out-of-touch God whose attention is hard to get, but an ever-present God who is with you through every struggle. There are too many verses in the Scriptures that remind us of God’s presence in our lives despite the circumstances we face. For instance, Hebrews 13:5 reminds us, …for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. No matter what you face in life, you can be assured that God is always with you despite the obstacle.
John 1:1 shows us that God is an ever-present God. For instance, this verse shows us that God was the Word. Then it reminds us that God was with the Word. Finally, it reminds us that the Word was the beginning. In other words, God was there in every timeline of life. He was in the beginning, and He is still in the present. Let me share several thoughts on how this truth impacts your life.
First, the fact that the Word was in the beginning shows us that our lives are no mistake with God. God made you for a purpose. Even the beginning of your life was designed by God. You are no uh-oh with God; rather, you are God’s perfectly designed being that He lovingly made so that you can serve Him. You may not understand all the purposes of why your life is the way that it is, but you must understand that the God who was with you in the beginning designed not only your beginning, but your entire life.
Second, the fact that God was reminds us that He has been with us every step of our lives. You can look back throughout your life and see the footsteps of God. In times of heartache, you can see His presence in your life. You can look to your past and see God’s mighty hand working through you. What a mighty God He is not only to design your life from the beginning, but to show His power in your life in the past.
Third, the fact that God was with the Word reminds us that He is with us now. The very nature of God is that He is with us no matter what we face. One of the names of the Saviour is Emmanuel, which means God with us. God did not say He is with us when we feel like He is with us, but that He is with us because He promised to be with us. You don't have to feel God to know that He is with you. Oh, those times in life when we don't feel God does not mean that He is not there. God was with the Word, and He never left the Word; therefore, the essence of God is that He is with us despite our feelings or thoughts of wonder if He is with us.
Let me take these thoughts and remind you that the God who designed you, and was with you in the past is still with you today. You may be going through one of the toughest times of your life, but He is with you. If God is with you, you need not worry if you can handle the present situation of life, or if you can handle what the present situation is about to make happen. If God was in your beginning, in your past, and in your present, you can be assured that He will be with you in your tomorrow. Whatever you do, never let the situation of the present cause worry. God has never failed in the past, and He is sure not to fail in the future. Let His presence throughout history be your comfort that He will also be with you throughout your future.
