Matthew 15:27
And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.
A Gentile lady came to Jesus for a need that she knew only He could perform. Her daughter was grievously vexed by a devil. She had seen what this devil was doing to her daughter, and her heart was broken for a solution. This Gentile lady knew that Jesus was the only hope for her daughter.
She came to Jesus and said, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. When she spoke to Jesus, not only did Jesus not respond to her, but even the disciples said, Send her away; for she crieth after us. Why did they respond to this lady in such a manner? The simple answer is she was a Gentile, and the Jews had nothing to do with Gentiles.
However, Jesus made a strange statement to this Gentile lady when He said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. Her response to Jesus’ statement was, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. This response moved the Saviour to heal her daughter of these devils.
The faith that this lady had understood that even the crumbs of God’s power are miraculous, and it is better to enjoy the crumbs than nothing at all. This dear lady understood that she at least had to start with the crumbs of the miraculous before she saw the meal of the miraculous. God is still in the miracle-working business, and if you were as persistent as this lady was about seeing the miraculous, you could also see it. This lady did a few things that got her to experience the crumbs of God’s power that I would like to share with you.
First, she went to Jesus to ask for the miraculous. You will never see the miraculous if you are not even asking God for it in prayer. It is tiresome to hear faithless preachers and believers discourage anyone from asking God to do the miraculous in their lives. Why should we not ask God to do the miraculous? Doesn't God get the glory when the miraculous happens? You are sure never to see the miraculous in your life if you never ask for it or attempt it.
Second, she pursued the miraculous in action. You can ask God to do the miraculous through your life, but He never does the miraculous through lazy believers who never attempt it. God needs to see skin in the game before He invests His power in an individual. Your prayers for the miraculous are empty until you attempt the miraculous.
Third, if you can't get the meal of the miraculous, at least attempt to get the falling crumbs of God’s miraculous power. You have to start somewhere, and if it is sitting under someone who is seeing the miraculous, then sit under them until you learn how to get God to do the miraculous in your life. There is no shame in working with someone else who knows how to get God to do the miraculous. Elisha worked with Elijah until he learned how to get God to do the miraculous in his life. Elisha worked beside Elijah and enjoyed the crumbs, but got to sit at the table of the miraculous once Elijah was gone. My friend, never be ashamed of enjoying the miraculous crumbs from someone else. One day you will be sitting at the table enjoying the meal of God’s miraculous if you will continue to work and pray to see God do the miraculous through your life.
