How To Have Personal Revival

Allen Domelle

2 Chronicles 34:8

Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land, and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of the LORD his God.

The great revival under Josiah’s reign is a formula for every person to have a personal revival. We often look for revival in a church or nation, but revival is always personal. The only reason a church or nation has revival is because individuals have personal revival. Seven things are pointed out in Josiah’s revival that you must make sure are right with God if you want to have a personal revival.

First, is your focus right with God? The first thing Josiah did to have revival was to remove the idols from Judah. You will never have revival until you remove that which is taking God’s place in your heart out of your life. God’s place is to be first in your life, and if anything replaces God’s rightful place in your heart, no matter how good it may be, it has become wrong and must be removed to have personal revival.

Second, is your life cleansed from sin? Josiah cleansed Judah from the bones of the priest who brought sin into his country. You will only have personal revival once you become serious about removing sin from your life. Yes, we need revival in our land, but it starts with the believer cleansing his life from sin. You cannot remove some sin and have revival, but you must remove all sin if you want revival.

Third, is your money right with God? One thing Josiah did was to bring the money that belonged to God back to the house of the LORD. You cannot be right with God when your money is not right with God. If you are withhold tithes from God, you are withholding revival from your life. You will always find a person who has their heart right with God is always right in the area of tithing. Money shows your heart, and if God cannot have the ten percent that belongs to Him, you are telling God that He cannot have your heart.

Fourth, is your church life right with God? Josiah not only removed the filth from the house of the LORD, but he repaired it. You cannot have revival in your life when you are unfaithful to all the church services. I have never seen one person on fire for God who was not faithful to all the church services.

Fifth, is your personal walk right with God? When they cleansed the house, the law of the LORD was discovered and read. A personal revival always results in the believer having a daily walk with God in the Scriptures and prayer. You will never see revival when you are unfaithful to reading God’s Word daily. God’s Word and prayer have a way of keeping your heart warmed and passionate toward God.

Sixth, is your service right with God? The great revival resulted in people serving God. You will never see personal revival if you are unwilling to be involved in service for God. Involvement in serving God has a way of keeping you right with God.

Seventh, is your faithfulness right with God. The people who worked in this revival were faithful to their work. Revival is more than a one-day emotional service; it is a people who are faithful to do what they are supposed to do. Revival results in people doing what they are supposed to do, even if they must do it by duty.
