Deuteronomy 18:21
And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken?
There are many “preachers” in this world that you have easy access to. Just because you have access to these preachers does not mean you should listen to them. God knew there would be false preachers who sound good and make wonderful quotes. However, just because a “preacher” makes great quotes does not make them a man of God. God warned Israel of false prophets coming, and He commanded them not to listen to them. God also knew His command not to listen to these false prophets would bring up the question, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? There are several indicators that should help you to know if a preacher is a false preacher.
First, is the preacher a man? It is hard to be a man of God and be a woman at the same time. God said a pastor must be the husband of one wife. You can’t be a husband and be a woman at the same time. God calls men to pastor, not women. This is one of the easiest identifiers as to whether someone is a preacher you should listen to. If they call themselves a preacher or a pastor and they are a woman, they are lying because God calls men to preach. Why would you want to listen to a liar?
Second, does he use the right Bible? Here is another easy identifier of a false preacher. If a preacher does not use the King James Bible, he is not God’s preacher; rather, he is Satan’s preacher. You cannot use a false bible and speak for God at the same time. All you have to do is see if He preaches and promotes the KJB only, and you will easily see if this preacher is God’s preacher or a false preacher. False preachers always cast doubt on the inspiration and preservation of the King James Bible.
Third, does he have the right doctrine? Someone who preaches false doctrine cannot be God’s preacher. Doctrine is critical to doing right, and God never puts His blessings on someone who preaches a doctrine that is contrary to His Word. There are some men who use the right Bible, but they preach false doctrine, and you are to avoid listening to these men for they will pull you from what you are supposed to believe and do.
Fourth, does he associate with those who don’t have the right doctrine? Your associations tell more about what you believe than what you say. If you have associations who are compromisers, you are telling everyone that you are a compromiser. Just because someone preaches the right doctrine does not always mean they are a man of God. When a preacher has associations that are compromisers, that preacher is condoning false doctrine; thus, he places himself in the category of being a false preacher.
Fifth, does he point to a worldly model instead of a Scriptural model? A preacher whose direction is worldly cannot be a man of God. Men of God point to the Scriptural modes for holy and righteous living. When the direction of a preacher is toward the world, you can be assured that preacher is a false preacher.
Sixth, does he add to salvation? A false preacher always makes salvation more difficult than it is. Beware of preachers who make salvation more difficult than God does. Salvation is critical to the eternity of souls, and if a preacher adds to what God says for a person to be saved, he is a false preacher.
