My Head Is In The Clouds

Isaiah 19:1

The burden of Egypt. Behold, the LORD rideth upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it.

Have you ever heard someone say about another that their head is in the clouds? This is usually not a good statement for someone to say about you because they are saying that your mind is not involved with your actions. However, when I look at the Scriptures, I see many benefits of having my head in the clouds. Isaiah said, the LORD rideth upon a swift cloud. If I can keep my head in the clouds, I can keep my mind on the LORD.

As a boy, I was always enamored with the clouds. My dad’s church was in the country, and often I would lay on some benches our church had and looked up to the clouds with amazement. I looked in the clouds to see the different shapes that the LORD made in the clouds. There was something amazing to me as I looked at the clouds.

As an evangelist, I mostly flew to my meetings. It was not uncommon to fly through the clouds, and when we got on top of the clouds, that same aura I had as a boy would overcome me as an adult as I looked at the clouds. The difference as an adult was that when I looked at the clouds, I saw several things that reminded me about God.

First, the clouds remind me of God’s protection. When Israel was delivered from Egypt, the Scriptures teach that God led Israel by a cloud. That cloud that led Israel was also their protection. When Pharaoh decided to pursue them and entrap them at the Red Sea, God placed that cloud between Israel and the Egyptian army to protect His people. When you are in great need for protection, I advise to look to the clouds and see God’s protection for His own. The army of trouble may be near us, but the cloud of God’s protection keeps us safe in those troubles.

Second, the clouds remind me of God’s providence. That cloud that protected Israel also guided them. At times, that cloud led them to places that seemed to be unpleasant for Israel. For instance, the cloud led them to a place where there was no water, but God still provided for them. That cloud led them to be surrounded by the Red Sea and Pharaoh’s army, but God’s purpose was to show His power to His people. When you look at the clouds, always remember that God knows what He is doing in your life. God’s providence knows where He is leading you, and though you may not understand what God is doing in your life, you must trust that His providential guidance will lead you to the Promised Land of His blessings.

Third, the clouds remind me of God’s power. The verse above says that the LORD rideth upon a swift cloud. Oh, God’s power is mighty enough to use clouds to show His mighty hand. When you see the clouds, always remember that God’s power is great enough to handle your situations in life. You must have faith in the power of God that it is sufficient to do the miraculous through your life if you will by faith trust God.

Fourth, the clouds remind me that Jesus is coming again. I so look forward to that day, but we must all be ready as His return is imminent. Whenever you look at the clouds, always remember Jesus will keep His promise to come again.
