My Heritage

Isaiah 54:17

No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

We often talk about the heritage of the LORD, but the one great part about belonging to God is His promise that no weapon formed against us shall prosper. What a great heritage! This heritage is not for those who do not serve the LORD, but for those who are actively serving the LORD. Notice that God says, This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD,…. In other words, you can be saved but not serve the LORD, and you cannot claim this promise. This promise is only for those servants who are serving. Now, let’s discuss this great heritage.

The first part of this great heritage is that no weapon will prosper against those who are serving the LORD. Satan has many weapons he uses against the servants of the LORD, but no weapon formed against you will prosper. Maybe it is the weapon of health that has formed against you, but it will not prosper if you choose not to allow health to stop you from serving God. Maybe the weapon is a financial hardship, but if you don't allow the financial hardship to stop you, it cannot be the thing that destroys you. Maybe Satan uses our own fears in an attempt to discourage us, but if we choose to continue to serve the LORD, no matter what is causing the fear, it cannot prosper if we don't quit.

The second part of this great heritage is that every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. Not only will we face weapons, but we will also face verbal attacks if we serve the LORD. However, no verbal attack will prosper if we continue to serve the LORD. Notice this verse says that the LORD will condemn the verbal attacks. In other words, God will prove the tongue that condemns you false if you will continue to move forward for the LORD.

These promises come with the condition that you stay in the battle and face them. There is no need for God to stop the weapon if you let the weapon cause you to quit. God does not need to condemn the tongue that says false things about you if you quit when the falsities are hurled against you. This promise is only for those who stay in the battle and fight. If you quit, it was your quitting that destroyed you and not the weapon or the tongue used against you. It was your choice to quit in the battle that stopped you, and not God’s lack of fulfilling His promise. Don't blame God for not coming through when you chose to quit. God never promised that the battle would stop; He simply promised that the weapon formed against you would not prosper. God never promised that the accusations hurled at you would stop, but He promised to condemn the accusations and protect you if you continue.

Moreover, it matters not the size of the weapon; God promised that NO WEAPON will prosper. Oh, this ought to give you encouragement that no matter how big the battle is that you face, God is greater than the battle and has the power to stop it.

What battle is it that you face today? You are the one that determines this promise being fulfilled in your life. If you choose to continue serving the LORD, no weapon or tongue formed against you will be able to stop you as you go forward for the LORD.
