Romans 4:20
He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
One of the most amazing statements about Abraham was that he staggered not at the promise of God. Abraham may have had times he did not understand God’s promise, but he never lost faith in God’s promise to make of him a great nation. At times, Abraham tried to help God out to the hurt of every generation to follow, but he always kept faith in God’s promise to make of him a great nation.
To say that Abraham never staggered at the promise of God is to say he never got wobbly about God’s promises. In other words, he never gave up, and he never considered doing something else. Abraham’s faith was strong, and his belief in God’s promise to make of him a great nation always stood firm.
God’s promises are always sure, but will not always work on our timeline; therefore, you must have unwavering trust in God’s Word that His promises are true. Let's face it, we are human, and being human means we have to fight the flesh that wants to tell us that God will not keep His promises. One thing you must do is never stagger at God’s promises. You cannot get wobbly and weak about what God has promised you to do. When times come that I get a little wobbly, I do several things so that I don't stagger at His promises.
First, remember the unchangeableness of God. The fact that God never changes means that He always keeps His promises. God kept His promises to everyone in the Scriptures, and His unchangeableness means that He will keep His promises with you. God is no respecter of persons; therefore, what He has done for one, He will do for you.
Second, remember that God cannot lie. If God promises something in the Scriptures, it will happen. It is not if God will come through and fulfill the promises in His Word; it is when God will come through to fulfill His promises. You never need to question whether God is going to keep His Word; you only need to trust His timeline that He knows what He is doing with His promises in your life.
Third, remember that God has come through in the past. All you have to do to keep your hope alive in the promises of God is look at your past and see that God has always kept His promises. When you look at the past, you will see that you had the same wonders about God coming through that you do now, but He kept His Word and came through. God’s past proves that He will keep His promises. If all you do is look to the past, you can keep your hope in all of God’s promises.
What promise of God is it that you are struggling with? My friend, you may not see how God is going to make it happen, but you just need to trust Him that He sees when it will happen. You may not know the way that God’s promise will be fulfilled, but trust Him that He knows the way. If all you have is God’s record to hold onto that He will keep His promises; you can be assured that your faith in what you are holding onto is secure. Never stagger at God’s promises. You don't have to see how those promises will be fulfilled; you just have to see the One Who promised them. Until God’s promise comes through, keep moving towards the answer of the promise, keep serving God, and you will never regret you didn't give up when God fulfills His promise.
