Plant the Seed and It Will Grow

Luke 8:11

Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

Jesus taught a parable about seed falling on different types of ground and what it produced. He expounded on this parable with the disciples and said the seed is the Word of God. In other words, the power of God’s Word is limited to the condition of your heart. If you have a tender heart toward God, His Word can grow and do a great work in your life.

However, you must plant the seed of God’s Word for it to grow in your heart. The believer should plant the seed of God’s Word in their heart every day, and if they have a tender heart, God‘s Word will give them the wisdom and guidance they need for each day. Now, when you plant a seed, it does not immediately bear fruit, but it will grow and give you what you need in the proper season. Let me share several ways you can plant God’s Word in your heart daily.

First, plant God’s Word in your heart by reading it. Spend time daily in God’s Word so it can have a way to grow in your life. The reading of God’s Word must be purposely done by setting a daily time to read it. What you must realize is that what you read today will help you today, but it will also help more in the future when the seed of God’s Word planted in your heart has fully grown. You will never know the impact God’s Word can have on your life if you don't read it daily.

Second, plant God’s Word in your heart by memorizing it. Psalm 119:11 says, Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Plant God’s Word in your mind by memorizing it. How do you clean up your mind so that it will think the right thoughts? You do so by memorizing it. If you don't memorize Scripture, it cannot grow in your mind, which is the source that feeds your heart out of which all issues of life come. You can change the course of your life for good if you will spend time memorizing God’s Word.

Third, plant God’s Word in your heart by meditating on it. Psalm 1:2 says, But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. Meditating is thinking upon what you have read. I spend time daily walking and thinking out loud about what God gave me that day. You will find that God will build upon what He gave you as you read His Word if you take time to meditate on it. You will never meditate on God’s Word if you don't make time to meditate.

Fourth, plant God’s Word in your heart by listening to preaching. Bible preaching has a way of opening your heart so that its seed can germinate in your heart. Romans 10:17 says, So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. You should be faithful to all church services so that God’s Word can be planted in your heart through the preaching. However, you can add to the planting of God’s Word in your heart by listening to preaching during the week. You can never get too much preaching, for every time you hear it, you are getting God’s Word planted in your heart.

Fifth, plant God’s Word in your heart by serving God. Luke 8:21 says, And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it. You will find that God’s Word will come alive AS you serve God. God does not give you His Word to simply hide it, but He gives it so you can give it to others through serving Him. If you want God’s Word to do its work in your life, you must add serving God to your life so it can grow and meet your needs when you need it.
