Revelation 8:4
And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand.
There are always things that catch one’s attention. One thing that always catches my attention are military jets that fly overhead. Often, when I am walking outside of my office, I hear military jets flying overhead. Every time I hear these jets, I stop to look at them because of my love for flying.
Just like we have certain things that catch our attention, God shows us in His Word there are some things that catch His attention. These things that catch God’s attention remind us that God always has a watchful eye over those who serve Him and that He cares for the believer. Let me share four things that catch God’s attention.
First, a hairy head catches God’s attention. Luke 12:7 says, But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows. If God has the hairs of your head numbered and knows when a hair falls from your head, it should remind you that the great God of the Universe is very watchful of your life. Let’s face it, we don't really notice when one hair falls from our head, but God is so careful to watch your life and guide you that He even numbers the hairs of your head. This should encourage you that no matter where you are in life, God is still guiding your life if you follow Him.
Second, wet eyes catch God’s attention. Revelation 7:7 says, …and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. Many times in the Scriptures, God mentions the tears of His children. Oh, my friend, every tear from a broken heart is noticed by our loving Saviour. It is so noticed that He promises to one day wipe all tears from our eyes. Whatever heartache or heartbreak you are experiencing or have experienced are noticed by God. You cannot wipe the tears from one’s eyes if you are not there; therefore, for God to notice those tears and to wipe them from our eyes reminds us that He is there with us in those heartbreaks.
Third, beautiful feet catch God’s attention. No, I am not talking about you getting a pedicure, but I am talking about soul winning. Romans 10:15 says, …How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” The fact that God calls our feet beautiful for preaching the Gospel reminds us that He sees our service in the harvest. You may think nobody sees how hard you work to reach the lost for Christ, but God notices it and says that you have beautiful feet. It is encouraging to know that God sees your labor of soul winning and that one day He will reward you for your efforts in His harvest to reach the lost for Christ.
Fourth, smelling good catches God’s attention. We are not talking about putting on deodorant, cologne or perfume, but we are talking about praying. Revelation 8:4 says, And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand. God says that your prayers smell good to Him. It is wonderful to know that even when you feel your prayers are hitting the ceiling that God smells them, and your prayers are one of the most appealing smells to God. My friend, never give up on prayer. Every prayer you pray is smelled by God, which should remind you that He hears each prayer and will answer them as He has promised.
