The Greatest Harvest

Allen Domelle

Isaiah 17:11

In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.

Every verse of Scripture often has multiple principles the believer can apply to their lives. The verse above is one of those verses that show what forgetting God will do to one’s life, but it also shows why many miss the greatest harvest of souls that God gives to the believer. Three things are necessary in one’s life to producing a greatest harvest.

The first thing necessary is to be a witness to everyone you see throughout the day. Notice the verse starts by saying, In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow. One great reason many don't see souls saved is because they pass by so many lost people who would get saved if they simply gave a Gospel tract to these people and witnessed to them.

Jesus said in John 4:35, …There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. You will never see people saved if you don't lift your eyes and look at people as a person God has sent your way to be a witness to them of the Gospel. The majority of people I lead to Christ are not people whose doors I knocked on, but someone I happened to come across in my daily walk. You cannot reach the lost if you don't lift your eyes to see the great harvest of lost souls God sends across your path daily. Great soul winners don’t just have a soul winning time, but they live a soul winning life by witnessing to everyone they see. You can be a great witness for Christ if you will witness to those whom God sends across your path.

The second thing necessary to see a great harvest in your life is to have a walk with God. Notice our text says, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish. Having a personal time with God in His Word and prayer will get you refocused on God’s heart, and His heart is in reaching the lost for Him. You read God’s Word for God to refocus your attention to lift your eyes to see the harvest, but you pray to be empowered by the Holy Ghost so He can use you to reach a greater harvest.

The third thing necessary is the greatest harvest always comes in our deepest griefs and sorrows. Notice God says, the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow. Some of the greatest times of reaching the lost will be in your deepest griefs and greatest sorrows. Stephen saw his greatest harvest when he was being stoned to death. A young Saul was convicted by Stephen’s testimony at his death, and Saul eventually got saved. The early church saw its greatest harvest when persecution came and they were scattered abroad, resulting in them turning the world upside down for Christ.

My friend, you can waste sorrow by becoming bitter, or you can turn your sorrow into your greatest harvest by using that grief and sorrow as a tool to help others who are going through the same grief and sorrow. Psalm 126:5-6 reminds us, They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. Always remember that the greatest harvest of souls in history has always come in the deepest times of grief and sorrow. Don't waste your grief and sorrow on bitterness, but use it as a tool to reach many people for Christ.
