The Trait of All Successful People

Allen Domelle

Acts 5:11

And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

The believers in Acts were successful in what they did because they had a trait that drove their being and actions. The trait they had that made them successful was that they treated the Lord’s work as great. Throughout the book of Acts, everything they did for God was great. They had great power, great grace, great persecution, great fear, and they saw great wonders and miracles. The trait of making everything great drove all they did for God. Several things the trait of making everything great will cause.

First, great is an attitude. The attitude of great is that it is the most important thing you can do. If you don't think the work of God is great, you won't give any effort towards it. One reason many are hit-and-miss in serving God is because they truly don't believe God and His work are great. I know this is a powerful statement, but it is a true statement. When you have an attitude that something is great, you will treat it as the most important thing you do in life. Politicians often say, “This is the greatest election of our lifetime,” meaning that it is the most important election of our lifetime. Even though they say this every election season, they are right because that election determines the direction of the country. Well, every day of God’s work is the greatest day of our lifetime because it determines our future. If you don't have an attitude that the Lord’s work is great, you will never give your best toward it.

Second, great is a mindset. When you believe something is great, you will treat it importantly. Excellence is only achieved with a mindset that what you are doing is the greatest thing in all the world. You will only strive for excellence in that which you think is great. If you believe that God’s work is great, you will treat God’s work with excellence by doing your best in all that you do. If God’s work is great, and it is, then ok, rather than excellence, is never good enough. God’s work deserves everything we do to be done with excellence, but the standard of excellence will never be the goal without having the mindset that what you are doing for God is great.

Third, great is an effort. If you believe something is great, you will never complain about giving your whole effort to the work of the Lord. Giving your whole effort toward the Lord’s work will only be done when you believe that the Lord’s work is great. Whatever you think is greatest is what you give your whole effort toward. Because church is not considered great in most believer’s minds, they don't give any effort toward it. If you truly believe God’s work is great, you will have no problem giving your all toward making God’s work successful.

Fourth, great is an investment. The church in Acts was not afraid to invest all their money in the church because they believed it was the greatest investment toward which they could give. You will have no problems giving toward the Lord’s work when you truly feel that it is the greatest investment one could put their money into. The Lord’s work not only deserves an investment of money, but also an investment of time. You will invest your whole life toward the Lord’s work when you get the mindset that the Lord’s work is the greatest work you can do.

My friend, there is nothing greater to invest your money, time, and life toward that gives eternal dividends than the work of the Lord.
